Everyone I've shown this to, from RPG to angry bird players, has gotten offended :score:
Except fps and sport game players, cause we are badasses

I played a fair amount of RPGs and it's accurate.
Games like Final Fantasy (excluding XIII ) and Fallout cannot be completely enjoyed without a huge amount of time sunk into them. I don't see that as a flaw though. It's rare to get an extended amount of enjoyment out of a game without being reliant on online multiplayer.
this is where I differentiate myself from MMO players and throw them under the nerd bus. No WoW, Old Republic, etc for me...

All about extracting those hours of enjoyment out of the initial investment. It definitely works for me, I am still playing a game I bought in 2010 (ME2).

yeah, ive nerded out on many a RPG. WoW, DAOC, final fantasies... more than id like to remember.
the time investment and "raid schedules" were too much, i had to take it down a notch. so fps and sports is where i reside, but will immerse myself in a RPG once a year or so.
and an action/adventure such as resident evil, just minor doses

I find the introductory/"calm before the storm" portions of the epic-scale RPG story arc some of the most interesting, so I guess I have a different idea of enjoyment.
I wonder why the chart focuses on the ease of gameplay with other genres but the slow development of the plot in most Japanese RPGs (because Western RPGs almost always start out by thrusting you full throttle into a chaotic struggle).

the name of the .gif had "final fantasy" in it... draw your own conclusions
i think it focuses more on the Avatars of the standard "gamer" as the insult, anyways.
and the qualifying adjective of "properly" allows for different interpretations of the graph.

You need around 15 more categories on top, and then EVE Online.

Yeah, developers like Atlus have been making much better JRPGs than are in the Final Fantasy series for years now.
Those games define learning curve, though. Not because of the stories - which are often minimalistic and nihilistic (at least they aren't bloated and confusing), but because the battles are fricking hard. Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne is incredibly difficult for a first-time player. It's almost necessary to find a guide to beat some of the bosses.

EVE Online.
The (morbid) beauty of this game is that none of the time you spend in highsec space for the first several hours buying, learning, and building in any way prepares you to venture out to low or nullsec. I'd bet that most people rage quit the first time they get their shite wrecked by a gate camper.
