It certainly helps. Especially with things like crankbaits, frogs, topwater, and really heavy rigs (big jigs, grass punching rig, etc.)

Imo treble hook baits need a different rod because you're not driving the hook in like when fishing a worm. The hooks grab the fish and you need a rod that's more responsive to the fish's movements.
