It's regular stroke play for the pros. The pros and their amateur partners are playing best ball with handicaps for the amateurs.

Amatuers are encouraged to put it in their pocket if the stroke count is double digits.

The field starts with 156 pros and 156 amateurs, paired with each other. After the first three rounds, all pros and the top 25 amateurs make the cut.

If a professional's assigned amateur makes the cut, then they continue on in a team format (in addition to the pro playing individual stroke play to win the "real" tourney, of course).

Amateurs don't play individual stroke play, instead using the combined stroke score of him and his professional partner to determine the winner.

Clear as mud?
