agenda and politics
the media has been campaigning hard for Aaron Rodgers to win MVP since about week 2 of the NFL preseason.

How can someone be MVP and not even be OPY it either needs to be Breed or Rodgers for both awards

well for one thing the MVP could be a dee-fensive player
and IMHO the OPY should go to whoever has the most impressive stats while the MVP should be whoever is most valuable to his team -- those are 2 different things

Players with multiple OPY:
Earl Campbell 3
Marshall Faulk 3
Jerry Rice 2
Barry Sanders 2
Terrell Davis 2
Tom Brady 2
Drew Brees 2
Pretty damn good company!

I just don't understand how an offensive person could be named the MVP if they are not the best offensive player of the year???
I kind of have the same argument with the heisman. How can a guy who is projected to be picked in the 2nd round of the draft be awarded the trophy??

The Heisman is an award for COLLEGE football. It has nothing to do with NFL potential.
And we will use the Heisman to illustrate the difference between POY and MVP. In 2003 Eli Manning was the MVP of college football. However the POY was probably Larry Fitzgerald..
That is why the Heisman went to Jason White.

Years where OPY did not win MVP:
78-OPY Earl Campbell/MVP Terry Bradshaw
80-OPY Earl Campbell/MVP Brian Sipe
82-OPY Dan Fouts/MVP Mark Moseley (Kicker)
86-OPY Eric Dickerson/MVP Lawrence Taylor (LB)
87-OPY Jerry Rice/MVP John Elway
88-OPY Roger Craig/MVP Boomer Esiason
90-OPY Warren Moon/MVP Joe Montana
93-OPY Jerry Rice/MVP Emmitt Smith
94-OPY Barry Sanders/MVP Steve Young
96-OPY Terrell Davis/MVP Brett Favre
97-OPY Barry Sanders split MVP with Favre
99-OPY Marshall Faulk/MVP Kurt Warner
01-OPY Marshall Faulk/MVP Kurt Warner(again...)
02-OPY Priest Holmes/MVP Rich Gannon
03-OPY Jamal Lewis/MVPs Peyton Manning and Steve McNair
08-OPY Drew Brees/MVP Peyton Manning
09-OPY Chris Johnson/MVP Peyton Manning
11-OPY Drew Brees/MVP Aaron Rodgers
so it happened 18 times in the 39 years of the award and only twice was a non-offensive player the MVP in the last 39 years. So it is not that rare.

How can you say that? The Heisman award goes to the best player in college football for that year. Wouldn't one presume that the person who wins the award and is truly the best player in college football would be one of the top picks in the draft???
Maybe not the top pick because of teams needs and whatnot but nonetheless, a top pick.

Thats the problem I have with this.
