Somehow I missed this thread. Yes, I got my email. I'm the one red dot in Winn Parish. I actually reported two sightings, but I guess they just made one red dot since it was at the exact same place.

I sure did see one in town.

Two years ago I saw 6-8 in one area south of Deridder.

Last year I saw them in Deridder, a huge one 2 miles North of Leesville, two in Many just a tad north, and about 4 or 5 south of Natchitoches on 49. Makes my day.

After looking up the Mississippi Kite I can see that is what I have flying around my house. My wife is terrified that they will get to her Yorkie. I laugh at her. Thanks for the clarification

About 8 years ago they started showing up in the green belt behind my house. Started with 4 of them and they increased every year until 3 years ago there where 18 of them. They would all get in this huge bird vortex and circle for hours. The next year the unexpectedly dropped back to 4 and the last 2 years I have seen none nesting. I have spotted them along Lake Jessup a few miles north of me but that's it.

Beautiful birds to sit and watch.

Great looking bird; we see them a lot around our SIL's place in St. Augustine. The other place I look for them is on the I-65 bridges across the swamps north of Mobile. You are only going to see them in the summer in North America. When we were in Costa Rica last May there were lots of them. Their favorite food is lizards they pluck off of tree tops. Also, on the coast of Georgia sometimes large numbers will show up where locusts are emerging.
