One of my friends mentioned that it would be a good idea to make some for networking events but I'm leaning on it being a douche act. I'm new to all of this and am wondering what would be the correct protocol for a student trying to land a Big 4 type internship.

that's ridiculous. Don't have one until you actually have a job and until you acutally need one for said job.

Completely unnecessary. Concentrate more on having a top notch resume, not being socially awkward at networking/recruiting events, and looking the part.

You will get offers if you do those three things.

A business card, albeit a simple one, is a good idea for students approaching graduation. You can get a decent supply of simple black and white cards for under $15.

"Simple" could be just your name and phone number. No graphics, no logos, etc. And don't get silly with it by trying to be cute, with sophomorish slogans.

Just the facts, please.....

I just retired Dec 31st. I've had "kids" give me college business cards over the years and it's a bit of a turn off. I'd rather have someone ask for my business card so they can send me an electronic version.

Also, remember "giving" business cards out is a waste of time. 99% go in the trash. The key is to get someone to "ASK" you for your contact information. Now that's how you make contacts and get jobs.

Awesome, thanks for the advice guys. I think I'm going to make one with a cool fire holographic background and hand it to recruiters.

I've recruited at colleges. Business cards is a bad idea unless you are marketing major. At the very minimum, attach it to the resume.
