The Necky Manitou II is a good tandem boat. I've rented one for tha battle on the bayou kayak/canoe race on March 3rd. It a comfortable all around boat.
Can't link a pic because I'm on mobile phone.
All of you kayakers should sign up for the Battle on the Bayou race. More of a fun 10 mile race than a serious race. I'm doing it with my 9 year old. Live bands and drinks at the finish line for those of you that need to be convinced.
the race is in Ocean Springs, MS

You would probably like a one person kayak where you could sit on some dude's lap. The Spanish town Lake might be a better place to cruise for you.

Thanks for the info. I know some folks that did a race down the mississippi from Natchez.. As for Motorboat, by the looks yourt Avi, you like dat dirt road!

The race on the MS river into Natchez is the Phatwater. The one further norht htat finished in Vicksburgh is the Bluz Cruz.
Both are fun, but not for someone not comfortable in their boat.... I had to swim out of the MS river during the Bluz Cruz last year. Got sucked into a spillway known as Paw paws chute while hanging on to my 18 foot kayak in white cap conditions. A real Oh shite kind of 30-40 minutes. Got back in my boat and still beat a few friends to the finish line!

Native Magic 14.5-discontinued, but a great double that can convert to single, and can be found on craigslist from time to time.
Native ultimate 14'-another great double, but pricey and more canoelike.
If I were you, I'd just get a canoe, used preferably. They are always selling one around BR.

I'm using sit in touring kayaks. One 14 foot and a "fast touring" sea kayak that is 18 feet. No fishing or SOT kayaks usually in the races on the MS river. Distance is to long and river too big.
The battle on the bayou race has plenty of SOT kayak. A bring whatever you've got kind of event.
