Seriously, I know it is often joked about on here, but obviously it is because there are people who really thinks ESPN and/or other networks hate LSU.

Is there a specific reason as to why so many people actually think this? There are times when I hear someone make a comment about how they hate a certain ESPN personality because he hates LSU because they heard him/her said something "negative" (someone told me they hated Lee Corso before because he picked someone to beat LSU) about us.

Is this as common with all fan bases as it is with LSU fans? And is there something behind the idea that LSU is hated by networks especially ESPN?

I don't think any networks "hate" LSU...What's to hate?...We are a team of superstars coached by a cartoon character. However, it seem the networks, mainly ESPN, would find pleasure in getting gangbanged by the Alabama football team....Tom Rinaldi is first in line.

Well I was inspired to start this thread by the thread about the email to ESPN, but I have often heard people say something about how _________ hates LSU and I am just wondering why this is such a common belief.

It simply being defensive about something we all love and root for. No different than being a parent and hearing someone be critical of your children

While ESPN, as a whole, has to be as neutral as possible, LSU is probably one of their better college teams to cover because there are a lot of story lines they can work with.

In fact, I read somewhere that companies like Nike favor Les over Nick because, for whatever reason, during a game Miles is shown more than Saban, which means their brand (the Nike check) is shown more when on Miles than on Saban. I just don't understand why people think everyone hates us.

Like others have said, I believe some fans just wear their feelins on their sleeves and If the particular sports personality just doesnt kiss all over LSU then they think they hate LSU. There is no sports network or any other network for that matter that hates LSU. Some just call it the way they see it and if that goes agains LSU then that is just the way it is. Just like Tony Kornheiser using the term of "LSU coaching" to descrive some basketball coach in teh NBA that woulnt change his game plan. Im sorry , I dont find that offensive, It is what it is and we dont make changes in teh BCS game and that has become a new adjective. Do I think Tony hates LSU for saying that Hell No. Its an easy description that fits. Has other coaches not changed game plans, probably so . it s just that they have probably not done so on such a big stage as we saw Monday night.

It all comes down to $$$ and ratings. The LSU market is considered a small market purely based on population of the fan base. ESPN always plays up to Texas, Ohio State, Alabama, ect..due to their large fan bases. The lovefest with USC is playing up to the West Coast population.

A lot of Bama fans are convinced Gary Danielson hates Bama.

Irrational fans equate anything said negative about their beloved team as bias against their team. Everybody has irrational fans.

dude, think about this for a second. Do you really think bama, who shares a state with another SEC power, has more fans than LSU, who is in a bigger state which they dont share with anyone? JEsus, did you just have a lobotomy?

valid question-

with no good answer, however it is not a problem exclusive to LSU. No link, but gary danielson has said that the most frequenlty asked question by the schools fans that they broadcast from is basically "why dont you like our school?"

which leads me to believe that the distortion lies in the perception of the fan, whos undying allegiance leads to a hypo-sensitive state re: criticism.

Seriously, it is self-loathing projected onto an outside source.

We can't accept that the media might not hate us, because as a group we have not learned to not hate ourselves yet.

Inadequacy and insecurity are therefore comfortable feelings for us as a group.

Well, that makes sense. Think of the major media centers in the US and the top football teams located in them:

New York City... Columbia
Los Angeles ... USC
Chicago .. Northwestern
Dallas ... SMU
Houston .... U. Houston
Miami .... U. Miami
Atlanta ... Ga. Tech
Philadelphia .. Temple

USC sticks out in that crowd.

Hate is a very strong word, but over the last couple seasons ESPN has been more inclined to attribute LSU's success to luck or the stars aligning rather than skill. They tend to promote story lines, and they have taken the Mad Hatter/Gambler image and run with it, no matter how conservative Miles calls a game. With the clock issues, 13th man, and bounce pass, it's a little easier to sell an article casting LSU as a bit of a bumbling, yet freakishly talented, idiot. Most of this stems from ESPN bloggers/writers consistently declaring Saban a demigod, not necessarily hating LSU. Corso is the man though.
