Is it reasonable to think that Miles is gonna change his offensive philosophy?

First, this isn't a Miles bashing thread, so GTFO with that.
Assuming Mett is the real deal, can we reasonably think that Miles will gravitate towards a more balanced attack(50/50)? Someone posted the other day that since Miles has become HC, the closest he has have been to 50/50 is 55/45 run. Now, there's nothing wrong with that, we won 13 games, but with talent behind center, will he somewhat abandon his run first philosophy to take advantage of his QB?

I think he's always be a run first coach.

Hire a badass OC, let him run the show on offense, do your job managing and such, have a limited role in the offense during practice and stay out of it on gameday, win.

Flynn and JR passed the ball quite a bit.

A really good system would be Mett taking the majority of the snaps with Randall taking a series here and there to keep the defense on their toes.

CLM will pass more with Mett under center, but the run will still have the edge.

Nooooooooooooo. Randall should maybe get a couple plays a game if Mett is the starter.

quote:Miles can change his offense based on personnel. Sure he has preferences amongst those personnel, But the offense under Flynn was different than the offense under Lee, and both were different from the Jefferson offense.

Not going to hire an OC. He is too loyal and will likely promote "Stud" in the near future.

Either way. I'm good with Randall playing to keep the defense off balance

He'll always go tight butthole conservative when playing quality opponents, except with the occasional "trick" play.

CLM will throw the football. He just has to have someone to throw it. Mett will be that guy. We will not be a Okla. State..... there is no need to change off. philosophy!! We mixed it up pretty good the first 9 games...

Well, we did have a more potent passing game when Russell and then Flynn were our starting QB's. I'd hope to see that again if Mettenberger pans out. I can't imagine Miles trying to make him a "dual threat" QB, although ... ya never know.

I just hope he doesnt give up in the 4th quarter again

Miles was a 45/55 Pass/Run guy when we had Russell and Flynn. Since then, due to our issues at QB, that split has dropped in the 35/65 range.
In fact, this year it was 29/71.
I expect 45/55 next year and beyond.

His philosophy most of this year was just what the team needed. When you have a great defense, great special teams, good running backs and a questionable quarterback, the logical thing to do is run the ball, make the other team drive the entire length of the field and minimize turnovers. Then you throw a little play-action in after the run gets established. I have no problem with any of that given our talent level this year.
Now, next year it's supposed to be a little different story. We'll have a better quarterback but we'll still have a good set of tail backs and a good-to-maybe-great defense. So on paper at least, we should be able to play a different type of game if we need to. I still expect us to be run-heavy most of the time but if we need to sling it, we ought to be able to do that. So rather than us just playing our game and daring the other team to stop it, we should be able to adapt and adjust to different defenses.

I think run heavy offense is what Miles prefers; however, I think this year was this way primarily because the lack of talent at QB.
I am 100% behind Mett, Kiel and Randall...but I'm also apprehensive to see how well they are developed. Krag and company have the opportunity to change the identity of our game, but they have to prove themselves before Miles will be less narrowminded offensively.

Don't forget about Rivers.
A lot of rumors out there that Rivers is the real deal and was a steal in recruiting.

Miles has always said he like "the pass"
But we must have ball security and TOS
Miles philosophy wins a ton of games...
I hope the players understand that
Our QB situation has been awkward for 4 years..time to move on

No. Coaches almost always stay with what the know best.
He needs to get a REAL PROVEN OC, and get out of the way.
