Yeah, I think 2011 looks a lot better if you don't compare it to 2010. 2008, I felt, was a near nadir of music that we are quickly climbing out of. 2011 blows the doors off that year.
I'm looking forward to a full David Mayfield Parade record, the Avett Brothers, Surfer Blood, a rumored Titus Andronicus followup, and a Craig Finn solo record based on Friday Night Lights.

I also want to post some other albums of 2011 that just missed out on my top 10, and haven't been mentioned yet.
True Widow - As High As the Highest Heavens and From the Center to the Circumference of the Earth: The best shoegaze album in recent memory. IMO.
Toro Y Moi - Underneath the Pine: If 2009 had the summer of Chill Wave, 2010 was the year chill wave turned into synth pop. Neion Indian, Washed Out, and Memory Tapes all kind of went in the same direction, but Toro Y Moi really stood out to me with the funk influence. His recent EP is great too.
John Maus - We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves: = Joy Division/New Order. Whats not to like?
Iceage - New Brigade: Second best punk album of the year.
Cymbals Eat Guitars - Lenses Alien: Not as popular as their first album, but I actually preferred this one. A bit more of a matured sound I suppose.
Best Reissues/Collected Works/Release of "Previously Unreleased" Material
1. Void - Sessions 1981-83: Biased pick as they are my favorite hardcore punk band of all time.
2. Archers of Loaf - Icky Mettle: I was just a kid in the early 90s, so had it not been for this reissue I might not have ever heard them. Great album.
3. The Beach Boys - The SMiLE Sessions: I haven't even listened to it all yet

On Pitchfork right now there is an eight part documentary on the making of The Soft Bulletin. Interviews with all of the members of the Flaming Lips and the producer/engineer. Really interesting stuff.
Watched that the other day, definitely an interesting watch.
Made me pull out my Soft Bulletin CD and give it a few spins. Classic album. Race for the Prize, The Spark that Bled, Waiting for a Superman, hell pretty much every song on that album.

Same here. I busted out the new Bose noise cancelling
Hearing Steven Drozd talk about it was awesome, he's a prodigy.

new shin song, if anyone is interested. sounds pretty good to me.
A new Titus Andronicus album would be great. The Monitor was my favorite album from a stacked 2010 year.
Seems like it is about time for new releases from Modest Mouse and the National as well. I have no clue if that will happen, but I can hope.

And getting the thread back on track. Agreed on that one. And I was behind on 2011 music anyways, but even as I have been perusing most of it the last month, trying to keep my ears open to new sounds, I am still not finding too much. I have also tried some on other lists here, can't say much about them yet.

At the Drive In and Refused are both reuniting for Cochella. No word on if they will release new stuff. I'm still holding out hope for Black Star, as Talib Kweli and Mos Def did a few shows together.

Totally forgot seeing You Am I in Portland earlier this year... definitely one of the top 3 shows of 2011, right up there with Archers of Loaf in Chicago and Dawes at the Manship theater.
fIREHOSE reuniting for some shows in 2012

Saw Dawes open for Blitzen Trapper this year. Dawes was much better, imo
