Miles was not playing to win that game. Miles played not to lose.
Same hand off up the middle and option crap into the 4th quarter.
It was a cluster frick coaching job and a Bad one. Not prepared and no adjustments during the game.

Miles is as good as his DC. He lucked into 2 great ones and that's that.
Pelini wasn't even his choice to come to LSU. He wanted to bring his abortion of a DC Clay with him here as a BBQ buddy.
LSU's defense has been the one staple in every year he has been successful.
Les lucked into a national title with a veteran team where numerous key players had nothing to do with him. Hell our offense suffered against real competition without Flynn that year. Outside of MTSU, LSU struggled with Perrilloux at QB in the SEC CG.
He's a coach with an overinflated record because he took over a monster of a program and has benefited from having no natural in state rival to take away recruits from a talent rich state.
He'll continue to be a 2 to 3-loss coach with an occasional division/conference championship and 1-loss season.
Welcome to LSU's Bo Schembechler.

I think he is incompetent and borderline retarded

quote:This. He's had his missteps before and certainly last night, but in the big picture he has elevated LSU football to an extremely high level. I am still in immense pain from last night but once the dust settles I know that Les is a really good coach if not great coach on the larger scale.
Reading this crap you would think we went 8-6 instead of 13-1 with an SEC Championship!
Gotta love the bandwagon segment of the fan base that's clueless when it comes to what Les has accomplished at LSU.
Snap back to reality people, we got our arse kicked last night...It happens! Don't try to make it something that it's not.

Saban elevated the program.
Miles got to maintain.
He is a good coach but not a great coach.
We were totally unprepared last night. Sorry but we did not even put up a fight.

I dont know Thirteen and forgive some of the ridiculous comments. You come over here with a legitimate question and some people go a little overboard. As for me. Never was really excited with him being picked . qustionable losses at Okie State that I started looking to and the blow out loss to Ohio State in his last bowl game. I always chalked that up to the kids not being motivated as hearing he was coming here. Comes here and does good his first year. Tenn - Katrina loss , I understand Beat you guys , you all were a little down that year, loses to Georgian in SEC championship. Worn out team from 11 games in a row etc. Then the debacle of conservative play calling at Auburn etc. Ole Miss debacle , the n the almost Tenn debacle. At that point , Im ready for him to be on the fast train out of BR. Finally full fledged on his bandwagon last year with good victories over Florida and you guys. Not to take anything away from you guys because obbiously Bama is and was the best team in the Nation but after the total Debacle last night, Im once again questioning his coaching abilities.
I understand that Tiger Nation is hurting after that showing, or lack there of, last night. However, is there no limit to the stupidity that some will spew.
Before you go buying CLM a train ticket out of town you might want to review the last 100+ years of LSU football history to realign your expectations with reality.
He has the highest winning percentage of any LSU coach in history...FACT.
3 LSU coaches have delivered a national title. The first two left LSU. How does it make sense to want to run the third one out of town? Especially after a 13-1 season and an SEC Championship!
The Bama team that beat us last night is 48-6 over the last 4 years. CLM gave them 2 of those 6 loses.
You can't win them all people...deal with it!
CLM isn't getting on any train any time soon...And any LSU fan with an ounce of sense should be thrilled about that!

He beat Bama five weeks ago, in your house I might add
In a game that LSU was completely outplayed. I'm always a critic, win or lose. Always looking for how the team can get better. That Bama game was the only close game they played all year in which Miles had to coach. And what happened? Miles held on to his timeouts at the end of regulation when Bama was just trying to run out the clock. Why not use timeouts, make them punt, and see what happens? Maybe you get a good return, or block the punt, or get a bad punt? Just very conservative by the head coach, and didn't go for the kill.
Then in overtime, all they need is to kick a field goal to win. And what do they do? They call an option play and have the qb take a chance of fumbling. The play worked, but it was an awful call. Even Gary Danielson brought this up when it happened. You don't call a play with that high of a chance for something to go wrong when you are already well in range of the game winning field goal. But they won the game All the fans, coaches, and players got cocky, and it led to people being surprised by this result and led to the team preparing like they had the game won before it started.

Moots, sorry you mis read my post . Please go back and re read what i said was after The tenn bebacle , year before last when we almost lost the game to Tenn except for too many men on the field , I then said AT THAT pOINT , I WAS ready for him to be on a fast train out of town not after last night. If you go on and read , I then say after Florida and Bama wins last year , ive got both feet on his bandwagon. Again , re reading my post, Im not advocating him to be gone, I just dont have the respect for him that I once had before he treated Lee the way he did. I still support the Tigers 100 per cent , he just knocked me off the band wagon again last night with that debacle. Thanks in Advance for going back and re reading.

He's a damned good coach. Simple as that.
But most people immediately think X's and O's when they think of a good coach. Miles is obviously not the greatest in this department. Miles is a motivator, his players love him. And miles is a kick arse recruiter.
Miles is Pete Carroll with a ball cap and a funny speech pattern. Carroll was never accused of being a great X's and O's guy either.
He is the polar opposite of Saban. That in no way means he isn't as good as Saban (as unpopular as that statement may be at this particular point and time). It's like acids and bases. Acids get all the publicity, but most don't realize that a base will burn you just as badly. They are opposite but equal.
I have no idea what happened last night. I can't defend it. But I maintain my belief that miles is a damned good football coach. Easily top 5 in the country.

How much did he motivate his players last night? And Saban created a machine that recruits for itself at LSU. Any coach in the country could recruit at LSU at this point.

Here's my take ~ he beat the winners of the Music City Bowl, Chick Fil A Bowl, Gator Bowl, Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, Cotton Bowl and the National Champions! THEN won the SEC.
that's what kind of coach Les Miles is. to me 13-1 just looks better than 12-1

just FYI
Perriloux was the player of the game in that SEC CG went 20/30 and 243 yards.

windhammontanatigers,
I did...Sorry for the misread on my part. But if you don't mind my saying, it seems like you're doing a lot of hoping on and off that bandwagon.
No coach is perfect...Every coach and team is capable of laying an egg like LSU did last night. The lack of maturity by some of our fan base strikes me as both comical and sad. They support him until he loses A game, then it's all bets off, they're ready to tar and feather the guy.
Wish these folks had sat through the Hallman and DiNardo years with me, perhaps they would have a different prospective.
UNBELIEVABLE!

We thought that Miles was a very good coach, but, last night changed that for me. At this point, I have not decided, but, I'm leaning towards this: there are better coaches than Miles in many places that play college football. Miles is a lucky man.
