Underrated QB and had the misfortune of playing on a couple of teams with shitty defenses.
And the GREAT fortune of having Kevin Faulk in the backfield.
Didn't have nearly the overall talent this team has. Or any LSU team this decade. Tyler's stats don't come close to indicating what a competitor and player he really was.

Just off the top of my head, Paul Lyons, Alan Risher, Mike Miley, Nelson Stokely, and David Woodley were better, and I am sure there are more.

I have said that Tyler is my favorite player of all time on a number of occasions.
But he had some legends on those teams. David LaFleur, Eddie Kennison, Faulk, Cecil, McClure, Faneca, Savoie, Mealey, and Larry Foster.
That offense had some sick talent.

Savoie nearly defined the H-Back role at LSU.
Mealey is in the Indy Bowl HoF.
Foster and Cecil were an awesome pair of players. The criminal behavior may have derailed their careers, but they don't diminish their accomplishments.
And why does Kennison "not count"?

not really, it's a pretty good topic considering how controversial Jefferson seems to be on this board. Those that seem to dislike Jefferson are a really bitter lot. But for the objective observer I think Jefferson compares favorably to Herb Tyler as perhaps the best deul threat QB in LSU history. I think Jefferson gets the edge in that he is more of a passing threat than Tyler was and definitely a more powerfull runner. Interesting topic non the less.

sorry, but youre not going to convince me, or anyone else, that nicky savoie is an LSU legend. no h-back anywhere is a legend

rondell mealey was a fine player, but not an all-time great.

foster- see rondell mealey. and obviously collins was a supreme talent, but he played 4 games in his career at LSU. 4 games. thats it.

because he and tyler were on the same roster for exactly 1 season, which was herb's true freshman year and he split time with jamie howard

nor do Jeffersons. Both just played with a lot of heart and were good leaders for their respective teams.

Next thing you know, some idiot will try and compare him to Tebow.
Jeffersons style of play is very similar to Tebows in that both are more power runners, both are very tough players that set the tone for the rest of the team. Also boths passing, while unconventional, can be effective at times.

There is no convincing you of anything. You have made up your mind, truth be damned. JJ isn't nearly consistent enough to be the best dual threat ever. His career has been one extreme or the other.

Jefferson passing game has really come around this season. His stats this season compare favorably to Lees who is generally considered to be more of a passing threat.

I am 100% convinced now that you are just posting sarcasm.

come on man, mealey was a good player, but he was NOT a "legend". thats just ridiculous

yea, he was good. but is he even a top 10 WR in school history? maybe squeak in at number 10

99.9% of what could have been. you implied that tyler had the benefit of playing with collins throughout his career. when in actuality, he played with collins for a tiny percentage of his career

do you count michael clayton and devery henderson among jamarcus russell's WRs? what about early doucet for jarrett lee?

Their career passing stats are virtually identical. Both have played enough over the past four years for the sample size to be legit I think. Bottom line we've had both better and worse QB's than J-Lee and JJ here at LSU.
They are IMHO both average, inconsistent QB's who have had the benefit of playing on some talented teams. Both have had their moments where they've played well and keyed memorable victories.
And both have had their share of stinkers.
But they are both Tigers and I'm for all Tigers.
