you implied that tyler had the benefit of playing with collins throughout his career.
No.

I was showing that there was no void of talent back then.

He had a solid team, and a great OL (one of the best ever). He had a better OC than Jefferson, through his career.

You also have to consider the sheer talent level in the SEC. Nearly all the top talent comes to the SEC now, instead of being split with the B10 and others. JJ, JL, JR, etc have to play against NFL defenses on a weekly basis.

Herb will always be my favorite Tiger of all time, but he had loads of talent on those teams.

Jefferson passing game has really come around this season. His stats this season compare favorably to Lees who is generally considered to be more of a passing threat.

JL ha Inc played 9 games this season. JJ having played in 4ish games, how can their.numbers be close?

Herb Tyler was a much better dual threat quarterback than Jefferson. He was much more accurate with his passes and could run the option with perfection. Jefferson stares down one receiver, he doesn't make quick decisions. Plus Tyler was a team first player, Jefferson has a ME first attitude.

Jefferson passing efficiency rating this season is 151, second in the SEC to only Lee, who has a rating of 152. Both are ahead of Tyler Wilson, Aaron Murry, AJ McCarron and every other QB in the SEC. Jefferson is 50-83-1 for 684 yards. An average of 8.2 yards per pass attempt. Pretty f'ing good passing stats. When you factor in his abillty to run, which is probably his strength, how can you argue that he is not a good dual threat QB.

Herb Tyler, the most under appreciated QB ever at LSU. He was a truely exciting runner and his passes were laser accurate. Go back and watch his film. Seems like every pass he threw went where he wanted it to go. Herb was one of the first really good QB's to come to LSU in a long time at the time and until the JJ/JL freshman and soph years we rode high in the saddle at the QB position.

There is a huge gulf between being a decent qb (at times) and Tebow-esque.

I was reading one of the Tide forum boards about what player they most feared in this game and they nearly all said Jefferson.

was not a good QB but filled a void when we needed it. He sacrificed for the team when he could have possibly gone pro as a safety if he had made the switch in college.

I hear you. I wish he would post that also because these people get ridiculous on here with their knocking of Jeffersons passing ability

I love Herb but he wasn't laser accurate. He was good on outs and curls and the coaches did a good job of tailoring his throws around that. People remember the Florida game most of all but forget games like Auburn in '97 where he couldn't hit the broadside of a barn.

Amazing when you think about it, Lee is more efficient than all quarterbacks in the SEC and yet he can't sniff the field.

JJ takes way too many sacks, and is inconsistent. If you take away those two things, you could put him in the conversation. When he is good, he is good but he isn't consistently good.

He isn't a bad QB, he isn't a great QB....he is decent when you take things in total.

I didn't read this thread, but it's easily Herb Tyler ahead of Jefferson. EASILY.
