Brees' record-breaking night tainted by decision to go for it late

quote:

In doing so, he led the 12-3 Saints to the NFC South division title. This victory puts the Saints in as either the No. 2 or No. 3 seed in the NFC, depending on what happens this week.

If they are the third seed, there is a chance they will play the Falcons again in two weeks. If they do, they will be facing a team that sure didn't take too kindly to the way Brees broke the record.

Nor should they have.

Brees broke the record with 2:51 left in the game with the score 38-16. It was a questionable decision to say the least to go for it in that manner since the Saints have another game to break the record.

This comes a year after the Saints danced on the Falcons logo at the Georgia Dome after beating Atlanta last year with one player from that team that night saying, "I pissed on the Falcons logo."

Boy Prisco is going to do everything possibly to twist anything to do with Saints negatively even if it includes spreading falsehoods. There is so much fail with this guy & his statements, it's ridiculous. Who in the hell pissed in his cereal or fricked his bitch?

Th record was set on the field, nothing else matters. If he or Falcons players don't like it then the Falcons should have maned up and stop it! But they couldn't could they? That is why its legit. They didn't lay down they tried to stop Brees, but they couldn't! Remember that Atlanta!

Pete Prisco was born on Long Island, which might be part of the reason he has that New York mentality as a reporter: right to the point. After living for a time outside of Philadelphia, where his first NFL game was the Eagles and Steelers at old Franklin Field, Prisco moved south with his family and spent his high school years in the warmth of South Florida.

It was there that he realized that he wanted to become a sportswriter, but he also happened to be on his high school football team. That means he sometimes had the audacity to actually put his own name in his story after the coach praised his play. Tells you something about him, doesn't it?

The reality that 5-foot-6 guards don't make it in college football forced him to attend Arizona State University, where working on the school paper and questioning coaches became one his favorite things to do.

Upon graduation, Prisco bounced around the country working in various capacities for several newspapers. It was while working for the Tulsa Tribune that he infuriated then-Tulsa basketball coach Nolan Richardson, which led to Richardson and his assistants mocking him during a press conference.

"Prisco, disco, cisco,'' Richardson said as he pointed at Prisco.

The fans didn't like it, either. He received threats on his phone from angry fans telling him to go back to New York.

He didn't go back to New York, but eventually found his way back to Jacksonville where he covered the University of Florida, and then the NFL. When the Jaguars came to town, he was the first beat writer covering that team at the Florida Times-Union. It was then that he built a warm and fuzzy relationship with Jaguars coach Tom Coughlin (yeah, right).

In November 2000, Prisco joined CBSSports.com as a senior writer covering Florida and the NFL. He is married to wife, Casey, and they have two cats, one named Maggie and the other Mookie after NBA player Mookie Blaylock. Mookie, though, is more like J.R. Rider -- crazy as a cat.

-----Seems he just likes to get people mad at him. And probably hates Louisiana if he covered UF.

The saints are 10-2 against the falcons since 2006

They're officially property of the New Orleans Saints. We can do whatever we want

Deal with it

I think it's fair to say it was "questionable" as Payton could've let up. HOWEVER, personally - if I were a player or a fan I'd feel more disrespected if they started kneeling it with like 2-4 minutes left in the game. If I can't stop it - I need to continue having my arse handed to me until I can LEARN or ADJUST how to stop it.

Problem is BVG's defensive scheme is a "soft zone" to which he never makes adjustments - hence we get raped by the pass.

I pray that if we do play the Saints again, they bomb on us all day until Mike Smith is FORCED to fire the O and D coordinators.

In short - yep. Pretty much this...

The goal wasn't to score, the goal was to get brees the record, in primetime, on MNF. He's the best player in saints history and deserved that moment, and no one should have a problem with that.

The TD was simply a byproduct.

The people who are upset, wouldn't be, if their team and QB did exactly the same thing. Of course Falcons fans are upset over it. They were blown out on national TV, and gave up the record to Brees in the process. I'd bet they wouldn't feel the same way had the shoe been on the other foot and Matt Ryan had been breaking some record on the Saints. The hypocrisy in sports is comical that way.

The thing is, the Saints always seem to pass, even in the final minutes of games. I've actually been critical of that, how they come out throwing with 3 minutes in a game, rather than running the ball. If I remember correctly, that is part of how the Falcons got back into the first game, leading it to OT. With less than 2 minutes, the Saints threw, rather than running, and with imcomplete passes, gave the Falcons the ball back with 1:55 left. The game last night may have seemed out of reach, but at the same time, teams can score quickly. Anything can happen. You play for 60 minutes, regardless. I remember watching that Monday night game between the Dolphins and Jets when the game seemed out of reach, and back came the Jets to win. You don't stop playing in professional sports, until the game is over. I guess Payton and Brees were supposed to pull a Les Miles and start kneeling with 5 minutes left, as not to upset the Falcons?

People need to get over it if they have a problem with it. This is professional sports. They could have stopped Brees from getting the record. They didn't. That is one them! It doesn't matter if they had one more game left. I actually agree with them getting the record over with, so it doesn't hang over them going into the last game of the season, and into the playoffs.

If the Falcons had punted on fourth instead of getting stopped, Brees would not have needed the TD, they left him 33 yards to pick up 31 no way the TD wasn't necessary. They have no one to blame but themselves.

Where was Prisco at complaining about Michael Strahan setting the NFL single-season record for sacks against Favre & Green Bay on a completely bogus fall-down job where the tackle for the Pack allowed him to purposely get a fake sack where Favre essentially balled up and fell down with Strahan touching him?

Gimme a break...If the Falcons don't like it, then the Falcons should've stopped it.

If you're made about the 304th, 305th, 306th, & 307th yard last night, then you're an idiotic Falcon or Falcon Fan.

What you SHOULD have been mad about were yards 1-303...Which is what helped bury your sorry arse.
