Neither Oregon or USC will play much of an OCC schedule in 2012 although by comparison USC's is tougher by far. I suspect there will be a huge push to get USC in the NC conversation, hell Herbie is pushing them in 2011 despite their two loses, but I think Kiffen will drive this team to underachieve.
If Oregon can avoid a pitfall they could emerge in 2012 but right now I'm looking at Clemson in a relatively weak ACC or Oklahoma as the likely candidates. Of course when it comes to succumbing to pitfalls Clemson is the poster school.

So how did they "stock up" on recruits? Last I checked, every university was limited in the number of recruits they could sign each year.
Good question. I remember reading some pieces, maybe by Ted Miller of ESPN who covers the PAC-12, about how they stalked up. I cant remember exactly how they did it, but I think they grey shirted lots of guys, or brought on many walk-ons, or some other funky thing to prepare for the 10 player hits they will be getting, starting in this new recruiting class. I just cannot remember exactly what they did that was special, but there was something. It seems USC did a really good job of hedging against the reductions some how. Can't remember exactly though...
I do remember though reading how USC's depth was really thin and they could of easily used much help from last year's freshman class with many players but they chose to not play any to keep their redshirts as a buffer for the years coming down the pike.

That makes sense in terms of having bodies but there is no way their talent level won't take a hit with reduced scholarships to hand out.

For years USC signed five star players who were then buried on depth charts behind other five star athletes. USC didn't care because it prevented these kids from signing with another school.
With the scholarship reduction these players are going to sign elsewhere, perhaps in the Pac12 and contribute.
ESPN will fluff USC for nine months but I don't see them being a factor in 2012.
Oregon is more likely to come out of the Pac12 in 2012 as an NC contender IMHO.

I skimmed through your post
Too much writing on USC makes my head hurt

Dude, settle down, your posts are too long.

I really don't see anyone outside the SEC winning the BCSNC for the foreseeable future. If the BCS is truly about pairing the "best" two teams, an SEC team should be in it every year. These discussions IMo are merely about who will lose to the SEC in the championship game.

Did you consider Texas at all ?
They have tons of 4-5 star talent playing & redshirted this year, even more talent coming in with another 5 star running back and a defense that is starting to jell and will be very strong next year..
Plus they will have less competition to vault over..
I could see an LSU vs Texas game.

frick Texas.
ESPN will tell the BCS they want USCw just like they told then they wanted Bama this year. The good news is that Bama is last on their "traditional power" depth chart, behind USCw, tOSU, OU, and UM. The only reason Bama is in this game is because the rest of the has beens were on suspension or had two losses

What happened was this: USC put all of their eggs in one basket. They were hoping the appeal would reduce the sanctions, so they signed a full class. Now that the appeal sunk, they can only sign 9 players. Let that sink in. They will have no depth after 2012.

I thought everyone was saying OK State was a year ahead of their projected run and were overachieving this year? This was early in the season while they were undefeated and it was next year they were supposed to really make a push.
I haven't kept up with where their classes are but just going off talk.

Word is Landry is "considering" his options. He hasn't declared yet. I think OU could be scary if he returns. They would be top 5 if so.
LSU should be 1 unless we lose all the RSSO and JR

There are plenty of theories on this board but none are logical. Ever.

But USC has to play Oregon and most likely 2 times next year. Beating UO twice will be very hard.
Easier than beating Bama twice...

I doubt we see a PAC 12 team in the BCSNC anytime soon. Big 12 and ACC will get the nod over pac team based on competition alone.

Good logic but if I've ever learned anything from college football, you never know who will show up and who will be let downs

i agree with the ducks top 5 next year but i want to tease them a bit.
this was the same guy who said they would have beat lsu if LMJ didn't get hurt and now says that they'll do fine next year without him
