You need to decide if you want a hunting GSP and what kind of hunting you are looking to do. My Oldest male came from wildrose kennels in Texas, certain lines will like water more than others...

Why would you get a GSP instead of a lab if you intend on using it as a duck dog?

I'm not trying to be rude, it is a serious question.

A GSP will retrieve, but be aware that it's going to want to go point birds...

I know I've asked this question on here multiple times in the past. I found a good litter on LAsportsman. I'm picking up my 6 week old puppy this Monday. His name is going to be "NOLA". Pics to come later!

ETA: FWIW, I've seen a GSP trained mainly for upland birds then turned around and used to retrieve ducks without any waterfowl training. He did it effortlessly. GSPs can do anything.

I will now be a part of Team Ascend and Team GSP!!!

Choupique's gets duck time when his bown dog is getting a rest. I rarely duck hunt any more, I would rather use them for the pointing aspect, though my dogs did get on an armadillo kick last year...

I had a GSP/English Pointer cross and she was a cool arse dog.

ETA: And if you wanna have some extra fun before/after duck season, try to train it to point rabbits

Yes. Awesome dogs. I wouldn't duck hunt with mine though. Use her for pointing.
