The copyright holders use bots to go through the videos looking for unauthorized uploads. Reversing the image is supposed to fool the recognition software.

Yeah, it just keeps them from taking it off Youtube. If they didn't reverse it, ABC could take it off. They haven't really gone after LOST content though, and Disney isn't Nazis about their content like Viacom is to where I don't think it was necessary.
