Does the tuba player ever get in the game?

A honey badger-esque human interest story is the missing piece to the basketball puzzle.

He's played twice this year in garbage time, he just isn't very good

Pretty sure he went 0-7 in less than a minute against Nicholls

He's played some.
He played like he's never played before.

His bio says he only played one year of high school ball.
How does a 7'2" kid not start playing hoops until he's a senior in high school?

Maybe he grew late. Who knows, would be nice to see him score.

He played basketball in 9th grade, not senior year.
And when you're a Texas all-state tuba player getting college music scholarship offers it's easy to understand why you might focus on music.

I'm guessing that you are Paul Del Piero. If so, congratulations on your son's achievements. I know that Andrew is a senior academically. Will this be his last year on the team, or is he likely to return next season?

THIS! The guy was a two year 5A All-State player. To many that's not a big deal, but ATIgerDad is correct. This guy was getting recruited to go many places.
Congrats to the young man for trying something different. As a music educator, I just hope he continues to pursue music as well. I know he's probably a little busy though.

I wish I were 7'2 so I could have played basketball for LSU

Walk ons are a viable part of any program.
If they play significantly you will not be successful or your recruiting sucks or your desperate
There basically practice players but at least Trent treats them right as opposed to Brady, go ask Josh Maravich

I'm so sick of this. Josh Maravich deserved everything he got from Brady. Get a clue.

When I read this, my first thought was the Tiger Band tuba player that bitch marched over Auburn's Damon Duval that time.

I didn't mean it as a slam on the kid. I just figured it had to drive a high school basketball coach nuts, seeing him walk the halls and not want to play.
I'm happy he did what he wanted to do, but he apparently had some desire to play hoops, seeing as how he eventually came out for LSU. Seems like if he would have had just a little more development before now, he could have done something with himself basketball-wise. I'm not saying he had to exclusively do that, though.
Good luck to the guy, either way.
