Small Gasoline vs. Diesel Engines?

So I came across this website selling small diesel engines, and they are extremely expensive! This Kohler 6.7hp Diesel is a cool 1600$ while you can go to Harbor Freight and pick up a gasoline 6.5 hp for 150$.
Diesel
Gasoline
Why such an extreme price difference? I'm pretty diesel-illiterate, but does it have to do with the fuel-delivery system?
Also, the Diesel weighs in at 150 lb. vs 36 lb. for gasoline!

That does seem high. Also, it's unfair to compare a HF gas engine to what seems to be a top notch diesel. I do know that diesels, even in small hp numbers, create gobs of torque. I used to run a lawn service and my main mower had a 22 hp kawi gas burner. My good friend had a diesel kubota that he used for his service. It was nuts to see what it could bush hog while mine wouldn't even think of touching it. Also, the longevity of diesels are second to none.
That's my 2 cents, and about all it's worth.

The torque on the diesel will be 4 or 5 times that of the gas, maybe more.
As ICS also said if you take care of a diesel it will last forever.

Check out the B & S from the same website. I'd get one of those before I got a Hop Sing Special from Harbor Freight.

Diesel has lots of torque. Also check the weights. Diesels will be heavier. And I'm not sure if I would want to pull start a diesel.

Yeah I guess I did pick a pretty bad comparison by showing the Harbor Freight clone.
Also yes, after comparing to even a Subaru Robin 7 hp (EX21), the torque on the diesel is still higher. The Subaru (7hp) had a max torque of 10.26ft-lb, where the Kohler (6.7hp) shows 12.2ft-lb. I would also imagine the Kohler would hold this torque at a much much lower RPM and ultimately increase the longevity of the unit.
I guess it has it's uses. (generators, stationary applications, etc.)

I did, the 6.7hp diesel Kohler weighs 150lb. while a 7hp Robin Subaru weighs 35lb.
