I am pretty much sold on the .270 or .270 short mag, My question is, "What rifle would you buy (brand and model)? This will most probably be the only rifle I will ever purchase, so I want to make the right decision.

Go with the Remington Model 700. Fantastic gun. The US Military trusts it

Buy one and kill a deer and it won't be your last rifle you buy. And hopefully not the last deer you kill with it

How long have you been hunting?

Have you thought about buying used?

Remington Model 700 .270 would be a fine gun that you could kill deers with the rest of your days.

I'd recommend the .270, over the WSM.

Price range? You really can't go wrong with any of the classic/traditional brands.

Remington 700 is a classic and can be found everywhere from Pawn Shops, to Walmart, to the fanciest gun shops

I like my Browning X Bolt. Super sweet gun. About $1000.

Winchester starting making rifles again and the Model 70 is pretty badass.

Tikka, Savage, and Ruger all make nice rifles as well.

Go with a Browning. No worry for any misfire issues with a Rem 700

If thats the two you have narrowed it down to. Go with the 270, alot more ammo...alot cheaper ammo. I have the 270 Short Mag and ammo is a bish to buy

How far are you shooting? Deer the only thing you are after? Do/will you handload? I'm guessing not, so go with a common caliber. .270 Win or .308 are great. I still do my deer hunting with the Ruger M77 in .270 that I bought 20 years ago when I was 14. I could buy a new rifle, and truth be told, I've been jonesing for a fast .30 cal to reach way out.

But thats just a wish. I killed a ten point at 337 yards last year no problems, I'm comfortable out to 400 or a touch more with it.

Just stating the facts. How many 'Browning TV specials' have been made about Browning rifles?

Depends on how much you want to spend... I spent $1100 and got a Tikka T3 270WSM, Nikon Monarch 2.5-10x50, and a one piece scope mount. With three shots, I can carve out one big hole at 100 yards.

We have always shot 700s and like I said, no problems

Little more of my opinion,
I have the 270WSM, 308, 30-30, 243, and 45-70 for deer hunting. And the 308 is my go to gun, do not have a problem what so ever with the 270WSM, I just prefer the 308. Have never missed, lost, or even trail a deer yet after shooting with the 308, im most comfortable with it. Very accurate and sweet shooting. Whatever you get dont go cheap on your optics, get you a Leupold or Nikon at the very least, makes all the world of difference.

Your budget is really needed here....great rifles have been thrown out...but some have a nice little price tag attached.

So give a little info as to what you want to spend..

For example browning makes a great deer rifle with beautiful wood... but do you want a 900.00 rifle. or would you rather spend 500 on a nice savage with accu-trigger and a really nice piece of glass on top...for less then what the browning alone would cost you.
