Sumlin to A&M. Different angle. Point blank question.

Can you believe TAMU hired a black head coach?

And can you believe a black HC took his first "big time program" job at A&M?

When this was rumored I thought "no way". This poor guy will be on such a short leash. College Station is not a very liberal minded part of the world.

Any A&M people on here please explain how you feel I am off base. This is just my outsider perception.

He coached here as an assistant so he obviously felt comfortable. I think the current student population, most of which are from Houston and Dallas suburbs, is much different in regards to race than the students from a while ago that maybe perpetuated that reputation.

I've never heard any black students complain about their time at A&M fwiw, but unfortunately perception is reality with these things.

Yes. Glad you think A&M is a big time program. I do not know if we are heading in the right direction.

He is an apparent running buddy with one of our BOR members. Why would he be on a “short leash”?

You are off base by being a racist.

Just wanted an honest discussion.

My expertise of the TAMU campus and life is a night at The Chicken. The $2.00 pitchers were lovely.

"One" of your BOR. I am not an A&M fan or hater really. Just wonder how the alums and fans/students will handle adversity.

No. Just wondering how A&M handles a meltdown and an arse whipping?

It is a very tough place to be. College Station will never be mistaken for Austin. You really have to buy into being an Aggie. Always going to make recruiting tough. They and he have a tough road ahead.

Sumlin loved A&M, ever since he coached here. Don't let one night in a hick bar shade your perception.

A recent survey came out and found that Brazos County is the one county in America that most closely represents the racial makeup of the entire USA.

We had a black head basketball coach in the late 90's and early 2000's. This isn't the first time we've hired a black head coach.

And our last school president was a Hispanic lady. Your perception of A&M is very far off base

It's a shame it takes only "liberal-minded" places to accept a black men in positions of authority.

Good hire IMO. Excited for TAMU Vs. LSU football. First game I attended in Tiger Stadium as a kid was against TAMU. Awesome stuff!
