FWIW, thanks to the new CBA no player will ever sign another extension. You can get longer deals by signing new contracts than you can by extending current contracts. So any team that trades for Paul will be taking a gamble that he leaves.

The Lakers are betting that he stays, which is why they were willing to give up Odom and Gasol for him. The Clippers aren't so sure about that bet, which is why they aren't willing to give up Eric Gordon or the Minny #1 pick.

It's a terrible terrible provision in the CBA. I have no idea how it got in there or which side supports it.
