For real.

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - Jim McElwain accepted an offer Wednesday to become the head coach at Memphis, but changed his mind according to TigerAuthority.com.

The website reports Memphis called an emergency meeting at 5 p.m., which led to the hiring of TCU co-offensive coordinator Justin Fuente. The website reports a press conference will be held Thursday morning.

That might be worse than leaving a NFL team in the middle of the night and letting the players know by note...

But not as bad as hiring on offensive coordinator, handcuffing him and then firing him midseason.

probably a good thing. Whoever we got was probably a lot cheaper. Coaches of softball should make like 50 bucks a game IMO

If I was in the NFL, I wouldn't care if or how the coach left. I'm getting my money either way.

Good decision by him. Memphis is a black hole. He would have gone there, lost a lot, and taken another job as an OC after being fired.

To be fair, memphis in no way could back up McElwain's demands. The powers that be do not see it necessary to upgrade their FB facilities more than they have had planned and that was a large red flag.

Memphis will never be a good destination for FB until they get their heads out of their asses and put some money from the basketball fund into Football.

If he isn't getting the job done, why keep him? Tony Franklin = GTFO

Au's coaching staff and admin screwed him over royally. He won more games in his short tenure than Au did after they fired him.

Yea, he had such a brutal schedule of UL-Monroe, Southern Miss, Mississippi State, Tennessee, and Vandy. The only worthy opponent we played while he was OC was #6 LSU.

quote:

The offense is near or at the bottom in most offensive categories in the SEC and the country. Auburn ranks 104th in total offense (309.2 yards per game), 105th in pass efficiency (104.98), tied for 111th in red zone offense (65 percent) and 112th in third-down conversions (29.7 percent).

Before he was fired.

Probably didn't help other assistant coaches were undermining him. The Au way.

Yes they were cheaper. LSU offered to make him the highest paid softball coach in the country ($250,000 IIRC) which is what Alabama is now paying him.
