My argument is this. Every year we see four quarterbacks with 3500 yards and twenty some-odd touchdowns. Every year we see RB's with monster numbers. I don't find them that spectacular. Often, they are just products of a system, e.g., Graham Harrell or Colt Brennan.

You see a player like Tyrann Mathieu once in a decade. He is spectacular, and it should be rewarded. Quarterbacks and RB's can be replaced - he can't. That is all.

These were my thoughts, as well. You don't see a player like Tyrann Mathieu that often.

What is funny is that all preseason All-whatever teams, prospects, etc...

Only Morris Claiborne got love in those and he was usually rated near the 50's.

Now TM7 is a Heisman finalist and Mo is a Top 10 draft pick!

He's the best player on the best team. Why is that criteria thrown out ONLY when LSU is the best team?

2003 - NOBODY got Heisman chatter.

2007 - Putt finished 9th, but was limited down the stretch, and as much as TM7 is not going to get it (this year at least), a DT in 2007 was really not going to get it.

In addition to being the best player on the best team, he's the single most dynamic, exciting playmaker in all of college football this year. Certainly the closest to a $cam Newton, with much less (but not "none") off-the-field baggage.

Good post. This is also why I thought Suh should have won it in 2009. He was the most "outstanding" college football player for the season, which is who the Heisman is supposed to go to.

Absolutely great point.....

But TM doesn't play for BAMA or ND or USC and, like others, has to be much better than a player at one of those schools to be considered.

For example, the leader on some ballots...

6th place in Rushing Yds (1583, #1 with 1759)
5th place in TDs (20, #1 with 32)

And before you start, please don't bore me with the "body of work" or "who his worst game" was against.

That argument is old, worn out and just doesn't work anymore.
