This is to compare TM7 and CW's 1997 Heisman Trophy winning season.

Tyrann Mathieun 12-0 in games played
70 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks
5 fumble recoveries, 6 forced fumbles, 2 fumble return TDs
7 pass breakups, 2 interceptions
26 punt returns for 420 yards (12.3 avg) and 2 TDs

Charles Woodson, Michigan (11-0)
42 tackles (4 for losses), 1 sack, 7 INT
11 catches, 231 yards; 3 carries, 15 yards, 3 TD
33 PR 283 PRY 8.6 PRAVG TD 1

Know we all know because of TM7 suspension he won't win the Heisman, but TM7 is the best player on the best team in the country. Here is the voting from the 1997 Heisman. In 1997 just as it is this year there wasn't really a clear offensive front runner, but the big names were there has they are this year.

Here is the link to the 1997 Heisman voting LINK

Charles Woodson won it fairly easily. I think TM7 is the best playmaker in the country. That's what people considered CW has along with the best cover corner, and defensive player. Now TM7 may not be the best cover corner in the country, but to people that say he isn't a damn good one. You obviously do not understand how to elevate defensive backs. With that said, to call him a CB is a slap in the face. The kid is a football player and does much more than a CB could ever do for a football team. Oh wait! that's what they said about CW. I understand it's not feasible at this point for him TM7 to win the Heisman, but NOT to be a AA, please. They shouldn't have an All-American team w/o TM7.

Sorry to ruin your party, and it is a good party, but there is one huge difference...

Even IF TM7 would not have been suspended, he would NOT win the Heisman.

There is a huge difference in the perception of Heisman voters between Michigan and LSU.

I've made this argument before and agree with most of what you say, but how can you say there was no clear offensive front runner in 1997. To me, because Woodson beat out Manning, it provides even more fuel to the fire that Mathieu should win this year. There is no offensive player of Manning's caliber in this year's race, so it should be easy to vote for Mathieu. He seems to have made a huge surge since Saturday night, by the way. See my posts over the last few weeks on this topic.
