If they hire Curtis Johnson, that could turn out to be a good hire. However, in the history of college football, I can't think of a situation where an ace recruiter that was not a coordinator ever had success as a head coach. In fact, most are complete disasters.
I will even say that the number of hires that go from position coach to head coach and have success is almost non-existant.
