I have to agree with this...
I believe the voters will give more credit to OSU winning their conference than people think. To think they are locked in with their current vote is not being reasonable. The fact of the matter is what has already been said, nobody knows for sure if OSU would beat LSU/Bama without actually playing a game.
But heck, what do I know. Those guys in ESPN get paid for what they are doing, they must know best.

One thing for certain, I am very happen LSU won't have to worry about all these scenarios with a win on Saturday. Just win...

I think it is time to post a clear, concise "Who to root for" update for next weekend across the board for those who need the extra assistance (me)
It is pretty simple. Pull for:
1. LSU
2. Oklahoma State
3. Clemson
For good measure, maybe West Virginia and Oregon

Part of me thinks that a "convincing" win over Satan in NO would be the crowning glory of perhaps the greatest college football season ever. More so when one considers the rather shaky QB play. Beating St. Nick again would likely predicate the easily underestimated pleasure of seeing him have a fit of emotional incontinence more than once.
On the other hand, why should LSU have to beat the gumps again when they did so in their own backyard already. Been there, done that.
Which brings us to the B(C)S. It is a cartel and nothing more. Any claim otherwise is fronted only by the insiders, there enablers or the mentally challenged. History teaches that cartels never produce anything good, often the contrary by cold-blooded design.
The least controversial aspect of the soon to be up-dated BCS rankings will be LSU's indisputable placement at the very top-unanimously. The fact is that claims that 'Bama is 2nd best are nothing more than hot air opinion. The same could be said of OSU and Stanford, maybe even VT.
The upcoming placement of LSU's dance partner is given too much to feelings and idiocies such as "body of work" or "should have lost that game..."
LSU can put all of it to be, so to speak, if it just wins its next two games, no matter the opponent.

Is it a done deal the gumps are in

I've got a sick feeling in my stomach and it has more to do with my more than likely not being in the Dome for the championship game.
Dang I really want/need OSU to win ... otherwise I have to really decide how much is "worth it" to see the Tigers play in a 3rd National Championship in my lifetime and I was there for the first 2. Crap.
And it's my 20th anniversary in January ... trying to surprise my husband with tickets and keep my mouth shut this time.
I may end up with an ulcer thinking about this before next Sunday.

Matt, I think it will take a lot more than 75% of voters to put VT at 2 and Bama at 3 for them to pass Bama.
As of today, Va Tech is likely:
#6 in the Wolfe Rankings (Max #5 IMO after a win).
#19 in the Sagarin Rankings (this will be their low for sure)
#6 in the A&H (max likely 5 again after next week).
#11 in Billingsley (max likely around 9 next week)
#9 in the Massey Ratings (max around 7 after next week)
#6 in Colley Matrix (max will be #4)
Given that, their max likely ranking 4,5,5,7 = 5.25
Bama will be at worst a unanimous 3. So they'd be ahead by more than 2 spots in the computers. That means Va Tech would have to be more than a full spot (more than 1.125 actually) to go ahead of Bama if these generous computer scores are given to them).

Oh yeah definitely. 75% is the bare minimum which is why I said 75+%. I don't think Va Tech has a chance in hell and that is why if you are anti-rematch, you just need them out of the picture.

Yeah. I find it funny how everyone is claiming these polls prove that Bama is guaranteed in. Most of the coaches are still not even voting their polls yet. Usually they'll vote their last one.
Most won't change it until after this coming weekend's games where they will evaluate the season as a whole like in 2006 and 2007.
Michigan was a full spot ahead basically in the coaches poll and it flip flopped after the conference championship games with UF significantly ahead.
The issue I see now is you can clearly see pro-rematch voters are shafting OSU along with Va Tech, and Stanford. There is absolutely no way they should all be that close and OSU still be basically #5. The rigging has started already.

A fixed vote. Before the ESPN altar. First genuflect and then vote Alabama # 2. What a bunch of "Bull".

Your opinion or do you have supportive data?

I've heard the same thing. Most coaches have someone in the administrative building cast their votes for them most of the season. I'm sure many coaches do their own thing but it is not unheard of for the head coach to wait till the last week of the season to do the actual voting.

Opinion, but historically most have claimed that their SIDs do the voting based on their preseason polls many times during the season because they don't really have time.
I don't blame the coaches honestly. They are preparing for games and don't have the chance to really evaluate things. This week only a handful of teams are playing and most of the coaches will have the opportunity to sit down and actually make a legitimate vote. Fact, however, is that I see a ton pushing OSU and VT down far to help prop up Bama. It is blatantly clear they are doing this already with the fact that despite OSU, VT, and Stanford being really close, OSU is still basically #5 and Va tech is just a smidge higher than #4. If they were truly split between 3,4, and 5 then the lowest wouldn't be #5. There are some serious shenanigans going on in this poll and that POS Saban voting them very low, wouldn't surprise me.
This is why I am against the coaches' poll counting votes of coaches with a dog in the fight. It is not fair that Saban, Beamer, and Shaw have a vote and Gundy doesn't.
The coaches' poll should include all FBS coaches in my opinion if they want it to be legitimate. Also, the final two polls of the season should be made public.

Randy Shannon and Mike Stoops were both on The Experts last week and both of them said that they think it's a bad idea for the Coaches' Poll to be part of the BCS formula. Personally, I think it would be best to just use the computers and the Harris Poll and bring back the margin of victory component of the computer rankings.
