Looking at LSU's schedule thus far, their perfect BCS ranking, and the schedule they have yet to play (#3 today, probably #10 or better if UGA beats GaTech, and #2 AGAIN); would the talking heads be declaring us "One of the greatest teams in CFB History" if we were one of the entitled schools?

I have a hard time believing that if we were USC, Michigan, Notre Dame, Bama, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, or Ohio State, the media outlets like ESPN would already be running polls comparing us to the best teams ever a la the cheaters on the west coast in 2005.

I'm getting texts this morning from friends who are all up in arms over the "disrespect" we are getting from the talking heads. I quit watching Gameday, etc, in 2003 because of shite like this, but now we do have a legit talking point.

So, I got to thinking....if LSU wins out, this is the best team in this program's history. Hands down. But where would they rate all time? I think top 10, easily, but I know that will never be mentioned on national TV. Our Baton Rouge market doesn't warrant that type of "respect".

LSU gets plenty of respect. the problem is its not very interesting if everyone says "LSU is the greatest team ever and no team has a shot at beating them". Also for the last 10 weeks LSU has been #1 and on their way to the title.

They had no problems doing this in the past...

But I agree with what you are saying. Save that shite for AFTER the season is over.

They have no problem doing it with other schools. 2009 Bama/Florida and, of course, USCw.

The absence of a media-hyped QB or RB affects the way the media hypes (or doesn't) a team like LSU. Our offense isn't flashy, isn't star-oriented, and doesn't fit the stereotype for uber-hype.

2001 Miami is the standard by which all "best ever" teams should be compared. I don't think we come close.

But as far as impressive seasons go, we must be top 3.

Agreed. Or Mid 90's Nebraska.

Nah. I'd say top 10, maybe top 5.

If we run the table, I say we come very close.

If Cam Newton, Tim Tebow, Sam Bradford, Vince Young, or Matt Leinert were our QB, then yes. But LSU's team is not built around one star player that grabs headlines. Their strength is about being fast and physical on defense, and controlling the line of scrimmage, not just one person on offense that they count on to give them a big play.

That didn't stop the media from sucking off fUSC from their run in the early 2000's.

They were ranked #1 for quite a few of those seasons and the media was all over that.

So, last night one of the few media members who is recognizing this amazing feat, tweeted this tidbit:

If LSU wins out, they will be the only team, besides 1943 Notre Dame, to play and beat FOUR top Five teams. May have to beat one twice also.

Now, that doesn't include the rest of our schedule. Jawja will be a top 15 team with a win today, as well as WVU most likely being a top 20 team if they win out. I know I'm missing one other ranked team in there somewhere.

We've also won by an average of 19 points over these teams.

We should be in discussion now as a top team of all time if we lift the crystal......

But you won't hear that. Instead we will have to hear how great Bama is, and how they should have beat us the first time.

If we win out, we should be in the discussion for the team that played the toughest schedule in history and came out unscathed.

Best team ever though? No. Not right now anyway. Miami 2001 gets a lot of cred because of the NFL roster they had. We will have to wait and see how players on this team pan out in the NFL in the future before people will want to consider us in that discussion. but it's sad that the best "college" team must rely on what they do in the nfl.

Which team has had a more impressive season? Not which team is better, rather which team has had to run a tougher gauntlet?
