I’ve never posted on the Rant, but I have found it to be a fun place to go if one wants to get a feel for the pulse of all things in the Tiger nation. A couple of weeks ago, however, I visited a thread that was started by ‘Southernpride78’ which convinced me that it is time to lose my Rant virginity. I’m from LA, and have lived in Mississippi since June of 1973, so I know something about living among the enemy.
I have to say that Southernpride78, who said that Ole Miss fans are the most ‘down to earth’ fans he’s ever met either hasn’t lived here in Mississippi very long, or is an enemy agent trying to garner a little sympathy before we stomp a bloody mud hole into their faces this Saturday. If it is the latter, Southernpride78, it was a very dumb thing for you to do, because the rantards here will devour you. If it’s the former, your ignorance is forgiven, my son.
Otherwise, anyone who hasn’t lived north of Brookhaven just doesn’t understand the Ole Miss culture. First of all, they live their daily lives with the misguided belief that they are better educated than the rest of us, and demonstrate it with the way they carry themselves. They even have a different vernacular than we do. And, no it’s not a higher form of the English language. It’s actually a bastardized version of the way you and I speak every day. It’s very hard to express in writing, but you put me in a room with 20 or 30 people and I can point out to you which two of them are Ole MS grads. They’re just different in a kind of condescending way.
When their football team is losing you can’t find an Ole Miss fan, but when they’re winning you can’t find one who isn’t looking down his nose at you.
What university in this country do you know where the tailgate party attire is typically slacks, loafers, sports coat and a bow tie????... Ole Miss. It’s because they have more class than you, of course--legends in their own minds.
All of that having been said, academically speaking, Ole Miss is a great university. Their present and former students, however, just need to understand that when they take their morning dump it probably smells a lot like everybody else’s.

I totally agree and as for the students Athens isn't as controlled by the Greeks as Ole Miss. They have an extremely overinflated opinions of themselves.

Sure, Ole Miss is great. That must be why U.S. News and World Report ranks them 13th out of 14 academically in the SEC.

I have been here in MS for about 4 years and am finally going to a game at ole mrs this weekend...

I have been to a few at state and they are downright pleasant to attend...I understand ole mrs is an entirely different story...

I am suprised to find that most of the major ole mrs fans that I work with are not attending this weekend....hope there are enough there to see exactly what it is all about..

ETA: copied my post from the other and requested deletion of the double post...

I would love it if you could provide examples of this

Many years ago, residents of the Mississippi Delta had a pageant in which they would bring their children to be judged by the local townspeople. The tradition continued for many years until one of the locals, William Wayne "Billy Wayne" Green, became upset when his niece didn't win the contest. He proclaimed at the County Farm Magnolia Festival, that he had the best looking niece in the show, and all of it was rigged.

The officials tried to explain to him that judging toddlers is a difficult event, and they found it disturbing that he found his niece to be "hot." The police escorted the man away as he began to bust out in a violent yelling spree in which the only thing they could make out were the words, "Hotty Toddy."

Although the history of the statement is known, it is still unclear how one of the most blatant acts of pedophilia became a most revered slogan of Ole Miss fans.

I know what he's talking about. It's like they go out of their way to sound overly Southern, like a male version of Scarlet O'Hara.

Of course I do not want to fight. If I offended you, my apologies. It's just that I've lived here for almost 4 decades, and they are generally not as you described in your thread a couple of weeks ago. The part about forgiving you was just a lame attempt at humor. Have a nice day, and GEAUX TIGERS!
