Was unimaginable when you look back and think that he was one of the highly recruited players coming out of high school in the country just a few years ago. Although to be fair to him, he hasn't exactly had the benefit of great QB play during his college career.

Any chance Shepard goes on to become a Percy Harvin type of player during his remaining time at LSU? What changes need to happen in the offensive play calling and by Russell himself that gives him a chance to play at the next level?

He doesn't get used in our offense well enough.

If he was at Oregon, then he would have unreal opportunities.

Screens, hitches, flares, and hand offs.

While he probably knows that he could have had a very productive career playing at a different school like Oregon that play the spread, he has always been a good ambassador for LSU. I haven't seen him complain once about his lack of opportunities, play calling, offensive system or anything. He is a great kid. I hope things work out for him.

Well to be honest, RS has shown improvement this year.

In years past he would barely get a hand on the ball thrown in his direction, this year he gets both hands to it, just doesn't catch it that often

but you can truly see that the kid is putting in his time to get better (and also that WR is not his natural position)

I think he gets better this year and the next and gets drafted late 6th or 7th
What he does need to do is work on other skills, punt/kick returns, coverage etc...

Personally I've never understood the Harvin comparisons

Unless I need my eyes adjusted Harvin looks to be a much more imposing figure.

Hes a special teams player in the nfl and extra wr. Nothing wrong with that. Think josh cribs or Edelman.

I don't think he would be doing much better at a school like Oregon unless he was playing QB, which I'm not sure would have happened. His speed is the same at LSU is it would be at Oregon. Also, his hands are the same at LSU as they would be at Oregon. If he can learn to concentrate and look the ball in, be can still have a big senior season.

I agree. Another year in the system at WR might do him some good.

It's just amazing to me that he will never throw a pass as long as he is at LSU

i think he could've been really good if we put him in the wildcat and had beckham as that receiver who would get the jet sweeps it would be really effective because that would've opened another dimension because you have two rushing threats

I disagree... Players don't live up to the hype all the time

Maybe Harvin just looks larger because he has bigger biceps. In the whole scheme of things you don't carry much weight in the biceps so it can be a little misleading

Right. But the hypothesis is that he would have had a chance to play QB there in that offense. You don't need to be a great passer in the Oregon offense. And he is a good enough athlete where he could make some plays with his legs at the QB position iMO
