ok I can buy that I guess, but I thought at the best it was split possession when they hit the ground, and that would lead to a catch. I thought Reid grabbed it after both were on the ground?

In a split catch both receivers would have control of the ball and still be fighting for it on the ground. In this case only the LSU had control of the ball when the receivers were down. When the Bama guys knee/ rear end hit the ground the ball was moving in the hands of both receivers so he never completed the catch. Reid completed the catch.
