ESPN and the destruction of their product

This is why I hate this company. This is why I hate these people that work for them. I know, I know "Why bother reading if you hate them..." I don't, I read Yahoo sports. I do like to check in from time to time, as they do have some nice pieces every now and than (Les article from this week).
Then I read bullshite like this....

I'm sorry ESPN but if you're going to hype a game through the roof, call it the GAME OF THE CENTURY (your own billing), and even have your College Gameday program there, why are you tearing it apart?
Complaints about no scoring, this that and the other, it's so juvenile and childish, certainly after the way they've treated this game.

If that was The Game of the Century, then I want my 100 years back.
Top-ranked LSU's 9-6 overtime win against No. 2 Alabama Saturday evening wasn't the game of the century, decade or season. I'm not even sure it was the game of the day

I am not going to read it. But I tell you, the whole game of the century crap pisses me off. This was just another game for us, but they hype the piss out of it to make money. frick espn.

Most of the experts on ESPN and other sports outlets don't know any more about college football than a fan who follows the sport religiously. There is no reason to give any weight to their opinions.

It wasn't pretty without a doubt. But the defensive talent on both teams is so overwhelming and played so outstanding last night I don't know how you tear any offense apart.
Look, was it the prettiest, most perfect game ever played? No. However to say that it wasn't chalk full of drama/intensity more then any game in years is ridiculous. Just because it wasn't a shoot out like the game a few hundred miles north doesn't mean it didn't live up to it's billing.

Incredibly boring game. If you were not a fan of either team I can see it really sucking hard

i will say this
this statement is just pandering to the lowest denominator

Not me. Not when Oklahoma State, which played, hands down, the most entertaining game of the day against Kansas State, is still undefeated.

It was a huge game for us, and it meant a lot. It will mean a lot for years to come. But it was regular season, and we still have a TON of football to play. If you don't want to be let down DON'T CALL IT THE GAME OF THE CENTURY

That aggravated me, too, but I liked Yahoo Sports' Pat Forde's take on the game:
"But understand this: the biggest reason the offenses looked that bad was because the defenses are that good. Dominant defense was the obvious storyline coming in – obvious to everyone but the endearingly odd Les Miles, who said he believed his Tigers would score “35 to 45” – so this should not have come as a shock.
So applaud the ugly, America. Don’t let the score obscure the fact that this was a good game between great teams. Don’t forget the fact that the biggest reason why the SEC has won five straight national titles was the kind of speed and slobber-knocking collisions on display here. Blunt-force football still has its place in the modern game.
In the Madden Culture, we tend to equate points with excellence. Before this game, the last regular-season matchup of No. 1 vs. No. 2 in the polls was in 2006, and when Ohio State beat Michigan 42-39, everyone hailed the game as a classic.
Then the Wolverines got dump-trucked in the Rose Bowl by USC and the Buckeyes got steamrolled by Florida for the national title, and we realized that neither team was fast enough or stout enough defensively to win a title.
Keep that in mind while you enjoy the touch-football scorefests you see every Saturday in the Big 12. You want an overtime game where the winner scores in the 50s? Watch a replay of Stanford-USC. Tickled by quarterbacks who don’t have to run for their lives or throw into tight spaces? Check out Russell Wilson and Tajh Boyd.
All those offenses would look a lot less pretty and productive against these guys."

Agreed, and what worse is people are going to find some way to devalue the win because of it.

Or better yet, don't worry about ANY of it. shite...I didn't read or watch ONE THING leading up to this game...and guess what? Not one talking head pissed me off for dissing LSU! I got to enjoy the build up to the game without worrying who was saying what and if we were getting the "respect" we feel we deserve.
I'll follow that up by using my own judgement of having watched the game and draw my enjoyment from THAT rather than the perceptions of others. LSU will remain #1 in all polls and stretch their lead. We'll date rape WKU and then Ole Miss and we'll have Arky come into TS the day after Thanksgiving. I couldn't be fricking happier.
It's really a nice system.

did you watch lee and jefferson? they looked like deers in headlights
we couldn't pass the ball to save our lives. we had 91 yards passing. our QBs were 9/17 (5.4 ypa). and we threw 2 picks
ugly, ugly, ugly, no matter how you slice it

thats some shite. lsu or bama never pumped it as the game of the century. espn was all over the jock of that game for 2 weeks. lsu and bama didnt make them do that.
however, i have a feeling that if bama would have won, they wouldnt be complaining that it didnt live up to the billing. if bama won, theyd be saying how much of a classic it was.

Thats why I read Yahoo sports. Pat Forde left ESPN and was replaced by the joke who wrote this article. Sorry ESPN, I'll read my analysis and opinions somewhere else.

NFL caliber defenses making underwhelming college offenses look horrible for 3 1/2 hours doesn't play well to most of the country. OTOH, I watched the end of the OSU/KSU game too...it looked like they were playing seven on seven. Jeebus their defenses were horrible...Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Offense is sexy. Everyone loves 52-45 games and the media loves a team that can drop 50 every game withou even batting an eye at the fact that they give up 45 points a game.

We've heard this tripe before. LSU wasn't as flashy as Oklahoma, and we smothered them. There are a lot of people who want to see acrobatic touchdowns and flashy runs in the open field. They don't like the fact that teams like LSU and Alabama don't allow open field to exist and crush out the acrobatic touchdown before the play develops. In the end, however, we continue to win these games. This leaves some folks scratching their heads, wondering how their team's offense let them down. Of course we know that the offenses didn't play poorly so much as the defenses played that well.
