That Bama team was loaded. Julio, Marcell Dareus, Mark Ingram, and a veteran QB in McElroy.
Is Alabama that much better after losing those guys?
Fwiw, Julio owned PP7 for most of the game and Ingram > Richardson.

Duck. I said that during the game and got called a little girl or something.

I think Richardson getting hurt turned the game for us. I think he is better than Ingram ever was and was better than him last year.

I watched some of it too.
PP7 had decent coverage but GMac was just putting passes on the money and its hard to defend that. I dont think AJ can make those passes yet. I always thought Gmac was underrated.

I have yet to hear anyone talk about this game, they had an experienced QB and we had a horrible offense last year and still won. Makes me happy to think about that game in relation to this year.
I like to think that our defense is better this year than last year as well!!!
LSU wins by 10+

is our D that much better without PP7, Drake, and Shep?

he caught passes, but didn't gain much yardage. seemed like that was by design. similar approach taken against Fuller in the Cotton. Julio did get him on the TD though.

quote:not really. He caught short passes, was tackled almost immediately everytime and didnt really get upfield. He got a late TD though

Nah, Gmac was just that good. The only reason we won that game is we tackled well for most of the game. I wonder if the bend/don't break Defense is used Sat.

False. Greg McElroy threw Jones open on nearly every pass. Of those 10 catches, how many were longer than the 8.9 ypc average?
PP was there the make the tackle on each of those passes, which most throws were back shoulder throws because that was all PP was giving up. Yes he scored a TD, but it is very difficult to stop a one-on-one quick slant from like the 2 yard line.
PP did what was asked of him which was to prevent the big play.

Just think, we had no offense last year and a so so defense
Posted on 11/3/11 at 8:21 am to CerealKilla
quote:I thought it was an even battle, McElroy just threw some very well placed balls, PP7's coverage was tight NFL worthy coverage
Julio owned PP7 for most of the game
So if anybody owned PP7 it was McElroy not Julio

And a heisman trophy winning running back, his back up who almost everyone agrees is better, the #6 pick in the draft (Julio Jones), and a very young, talented defense (They returned 9 of 11 starters this year).
If we won last year, I think taking LSU this year is a good bet.
Also, the refs killed our 2nd half opening drive with their delay of game penalty. I bitched about it last year, last night, and again now. How does that get upheld?? For those that don't remember, LSU had already converted a fake punt on the drive. JLEE is put in and immediately gets called for a delay of game, but one of the refs was standing over the ball not allowing it to be snapped so bama could get their substitutions in. WTF?

Yeah, I've said all along that neither team has a discerable edge over the other; stats are basically identical.
But, in an oversimplified perspective, we beat Alabama last year.
LSU O 2011> LSU O 2010
LSU D 2011 > LSU D 2010
UA O 2010 > UA O 2011
UA D 2011 > UA D 2010
Playmakers like Julio and Darius and Ingram can't be replaced. A QB with big game experience can't be replaced.
So, do what degree are each units improved? I like our odds either way.

Guys but that experience on the defensive side this year automatically means Alabama by 14.
Their defense last year was "inexperienced>"

I Agree except Richardson is better than Ingram

First of all, I do think LSU is a slightly better team than Alabama so don't lose your s### because someone questions y'alls analysis.
I'm sorry, but I don't get this at all. I also don't get where people think McElroy>>>>>>>McCarron. McElroy was a nice leader and an underrated passer but he was notorious for hanging onto the ball forever and taking sacks. McCarron's quick release, on the other hand, is one of his strengths. Also the combo of Richardson/Lacy has actually been more effective than Ingram/Richardson was last year.
Agree about Julio, disagree about Dareus. Granted, Dareus was a great player but he was banged up much of the year and only got really healthy by the time of the Capital One Bowl vs. Michigan State. He is literally the only starter that was lost. The 2 deep on D is much stronger this year.
As for Julio, we lost a go to receiver but that forced us to spread the ball around this year. The receivers and tight ends especially have been extremely effective this year. The offense has simply been much better this year than last year.
Special teams are the glaring weakness and what I think will be Alabama's downfall in this game. LSU is way ahead of Alabama in the kicking game.
