LSU Can Easily Afford to Stick 8 in the Box!

Thats how LSU stops TR and EL. They will put 8 in the box and Bama will go to the air. But is their another team in the COUNTRY that can afford putting extra men in the box like LSU?
Our Secondary is down right scary. Mo and Simon with TM, Reid/Taylor/Loston.
I think this is exactly what we do to stop the run and pressure AJ McCarron and it will be up to our secondary to contain the Bama Passing Game. I like that challenge.
Thoughts?

I agree with this. I think Bama may anticipate this and try to hit some big passes early so I think Chavis is going to wait a bit then start stacking the box

Hit some big passes on Mo and Simon?

I get this but only when its needed. Lets find out if Trent is the real deal or just make believed. Mark Ingram was praised too and LSU maintained him with a much better QB behind the center.

completely different gameplan than the WVU game. thats what the gumps don't get. they think AJ's gonna tear apart our D like Geno did.

AJ McCarron has the ability to throw the ball because TR has set him up to succeed by getting extra men on defense to creep and cheat closer to the line of scrimmage. However, he hasnt gone up against a secondary that could frustrate him.
He also hasnt seen a pass rush quite like ours. Team speed will test AJ more than he has ever been tested

Exactly, we game planned our D against WVU to keep the ball in front of us and we did that perfectly. I know Bama has a great OL but it think rotating our 8 deep DL will pay off late in the 2nd half, forcing them to throw on us. And don't forget (not that I really expect them to) but if Bama comes out starting slow early in the game like they did against Tenn, they might find themselves down by 14-17 in a hurry.

They will likely have to put 8 on us too.
When we go into a 2 TE set that is already 7 on 7 full back makes 8
In the case of jj it's 9.
Randle and obj split out or change the fullback to ware

Bama is going to come out passing. They may even score on the first drive because it is usually scripted.

I think we have some advantages in the passing game if they decide to stick 8 in the box. I like Bama's secondary, however...
We have some very dynamic playmakers.
1)Randle - the Best WR in the SEC
2)OBJ/Shep - 2 of the most dynamic Playmakers around
3)D. Peterson - Sure fire Rec. TE that will create some mismatches.
4) Assortment of extra WR to fill a role, Boone/Wright/Landry.
Bama is at a disadvantage in the WR category.

Even with 8 in the box AJ is in for a long day! AJ has never played in this type game. JL and JJ have.

Yeah, Bama throws alot on first down, 44%. More than LSU does.
They are usually safe throws. But safeties coming up def make it easier on McCarron. Hopefully Claiborne and Mathieu/Simon can stick their men.
But the most important part of coverage will be making sure we can cover their TEs and RBs coming out of the backfield, thats usually where they get big plays in the passing game.

AJ will have to really get rid of the ball quickly and efficiently for the course of the game because with that many men close to the LOS, I would imagine LSU will send the blitz often to test how ready AJ is to beat our secondary.

GMac is now Johnny Unitas. AJ is as good as or better than Greg. Don't bother arguing that because I'm not going to get into a pissing match. Just believe me when I tell you.
But, you controlled them last year because of Bama's O-line troubles. The offensive line is a lot better this year. I'm not saying you still can't control the line. Maybe you will. I'm just pointing out why you stopped bama's running game last year. It had nothing to do with the running backs. Ingram and Richardson were and are legit.

If Bama stacks the box, their secondary will struggle some. Menzie is their best corner and Dre Kirkpatrick is a liability in man coverage. He's great as a zone CB, but really struggles in man coverage.
Their safeties are very very good, but are bigger in run support than in the passing game. It's still tough to pass on them, but that has a lot to do with their pass rush than anything.

Alabama will use the short passing game to freeze our linebackers. Plus, they will throw to TR who will be a hell of a lot harder to bring down that UO or WVU. The early test of stopping the short pass will determine our fate.
What they may not have taken into consideration is the size of our DBs and the fact that they hit like LBs.
Conversely, we need to exploit their LBs positions UA plays a disciplined gap def. that funnels movement to their lbs. we have to hit the off holes that are difficult to cover, straight routes by our te's, curls by the wr's.
I hope we throw to our rb's , roll out and use JJ to try to tire their lb's, if that can be done.

Both teams qbs are only throwin the ball 15-20 times... It's Gunna be a game of inches running the ball and field position and as always with these 2 teams, defense! My kind of football game!

I see us using our short passing game on the edges alot more than usual. I like our chances with the playmakers we have.

This matchup will be different than other games. I think we plan up tight on the WR, bump and run coverage, to try to take away the short pass.
