Verne and Gary - They Don't Suck

I'll admit to hating most PBP guys covering LSU games. Seemingly innocent comments and observations are taken as pulling for the other team or a jinx (if the opposite of a positive observation happens on the next play).
I've always been partial to Gary, and listening to them call the UGA-Florida game it's clear they're a damn good team. They don't pull against LSU or anyone else. They hope for a good game and call what they see - very well.
Can't wait till next week.
Will probably mute the TV.

I really don't mind them at all. The only thing that annoys me is whenever Verne mispronounces or confuses star players.

Disagree. Maybe CBS mandates it but they are star frickers. Tebow could throw 5 ints or Lattimore could get zero carries and they still talk them up because of the "story-telling" school of broadcasting. The game isn't the story. It has to be about the stars. They miss electric performances to make sure they talk about the names. That in my opinion sucks. If you care for that kind of broadcast, then I understand if you think they are good. I just don't like it.

honestly, if you had said this any other year than this one, i would vehemently disagree with you. but this year, LSU is their top team, along with bama. this year, i actually enjoy listening to them, but that is the exception and not the rule.
i hope the broadcast on the 5th isnt totally probama. i think it will be slightly probama, but i can live with that.

To me, those guys seem to "like" the teams with whom they are familiar, and that's for sure us.
I like'em just fine. I'm not an announcer bashing kinda guy. Love me some Hawthorne.

Verne Lundquist sucks. There are no ifs, ands, or buts about this.
Danielson is solid. I like Verne being on though just because I love getting to hear what new retarded shite he'll say from game to game.

Learning all the names really is a younger man's game. Verne is constantly screwing up names.
I think the play by play is for the most part fine and they don't game plan themes like some asshats do. Maybe a little, but it isn't as forced as some guys do.
I can't stand it when most PBP guys come up with a theme for the game and then even when the damn theme isn't applicable, they keep trying to shoehorn ever damn play into their game theme.
I think compared to most they aren't bad. Especially when you consider the number of truly dreadful PBP teams in the NFL.

Awww, come on. Gary & Verne are a great team. I personally like both of them. I think they do a good job, and obviously CBS does too, or they would be gone. Keep up the good work Gary & Verne.

Gary is one of the best PBP guys IMO and I don't have the hate for Vern that many here on TD do.
