if you are an idiot, yes, if not, no. I have had mine for 4 years now, no problem, and the new ones are much MUCH better.

They are not necessary, just some third party junk that tries to cash in on people's paranoia that there Xbox might go out.

On the originals...maybe...but on the later ones...no. As long as the xbox isn't closed up in a cabinet of the entertainment center and can "breathe" it is fine without one.

... This hurts. I bought one for my slim. Only because it's in a super enclosed space but still. Oh well, only $20 bucks wasted if it doesn't work.

I remember back when the original 360 launched and the paranoia around overheating was peaking, Nyko released a "cooling fan" that actually decreased the air-flow and increased chances of overheating. I'm fairly sure there was a law-suit over this. My point being is that if you bought one you wasted money and have been suckered.

New one doesn't do that. Instead of blowing into the Xbox it directs air flow out towards the front, which is good for the ones in enclosed spaces so the heat isn't getting trapped behind it. I feel it was worth the $20 I spent.

Well, do you keep yours in an enclosed space?

... I decided not to be an a-hole and just repeat myself. Mine is in a super enclosed space. The worst the cooling fan will do is make no difference at all and $20 isn't a big deal. Besides I don't mind supporting Nyko, they've made at least 3 products I actually use.

Hahah yeah thanks, I just glossed over your previous post my bad. What does the slim version (of the fan) look like?

Realized this wasn't the OT and stopped myself

A tech told me they are actually bad for the console.

I was thinking about getting one for my son's Xbox360... one that cradles the Xbox and has its own power source. His room gets so warm when the console is on. He has it vertically set up right now in an entertainment center, which has contained sides but no front or back.

Does the tech repair Xbox's? Like ones with probelems due to overheating? Just saying.

1. Try to place it horizontal. Vertical is dangerous, easy to knock over and the disc doesn't read as well.
2. Having on open back it should be alright, but I recomend the one pictured above if you're really worried about it.

Nah, this was a long time ago. After reading your other post I see that it was a problem that is now fixed.

I've been through multiple Xbox's.... That weren't in an enclosed space.... I'd rather get the dust out than get a cooling fan....but they still got fricked up l and now im on my 2nd ps3 and have had 4 xbox's.

Damn. You have turrible luck. I've owned 4 Xbox's none ever broke on me. Still have 2, a slim and the original elite. Had 1 PS3, it broke within a year and it's still being repaired. I've given up on it.

Sit one of these behind your entertainment center to circulate the air and you'll be fine.

My dates back to '07 and had trouble locking up. But no problem with it after I put a fan on it. I would think it's necessary for older models. shite my damn disc reader is crapping out now. Gotta replace that.
