Remember a few short years ago when everyone bitched about the punt ugly formation? The Rantards be-otched about the 3 blockers lined up about 8 yds behind the LOS. Now just about every school does it.

The bitching about "Punt Ugly" was epic.

Question: when is the last time LSU got a punt blocked? It was definitely before "Punt Ugly"

I admit I didn't like it - but my perspective was from playing center (in high school). I got the job because I was the only one on our team who could get the snap back 15 yards accurately.

But, I think I might subconsciously direct the ball to one of the closer guys. (Of course, I figured ALL centers would have the same non-existant 'problem.')

I am still amazed that it hasn't happened at least ONCE since so many teams are using that formationg now.

As for the kicking formation, it was explained pretty well in a previous post. Most return teams have the front 6/7 guys assigned to a certain man on the kickoff coverage team. That man is not a specific player (I'm blocking TM7), rather than he is normally counted by starting with the man closest to the kicker and working out toward the sideline. By bunching the formation, the blockers do not know which players will end up in what position when the ball is kicked.

Nope. I definitely remember the Florida Gators blocking a kick in 2006 in the Swamp while we were using punt ugly. Also, if I'm not mistaken, Florida got their hand on a punt this year but the ball crossed the line of scrimmage and got a good bounce forward for about a 25/30 yard punt.
