Why is such a big deal being made out of all the double digit wins by LSU?

All of LSU's 8 wins this season has been by double digits. Every where I read something about LSU this is being brought up.

Why is this such a big deal when Alabama has done the same thing while beating opponents by bigger margins? Is this because this is the first time in its history LSU has done this over many consecutive games?

LSU has done it against better opponents.

But they haven't beaten teams by bigger margins...

LSU and Alabama had two common opponents:

Tennessee and Florida.

Alabama beat Tennessee 37 to 6. LSU beat Tennessee 38 to 7.

Alabama beat Florida 38 to 10. LSU beat Florida 41 to 11.

So the Tennessee game both Alabama and LSU won by 31 points. But for the Florida game, Alabama won by 28 and LSU won by 30.

Therefore, LSU has beaten the common opponents by a larger margin than Alabama has. But honestly, it's virtually even.

And my last point real quick... Alabama has played Kent State, North Texas, Vandy, and Ole Miss already... those are 4 horrible teams. LSU's games against horrible opponents are only Northwestern State and Kentucky. So Alabama should be beating their cupcakes by a wide margin, just like LSU has done.

While your post is insightful, it doesn't answer my original question -

Why is such a big deal being made out of all the double digit wins by LSU? Is this because this is the first time in its history LSU has done this over many consecutive games?

why wouldn't you make a big deal out of it? lsu has dismantled every team they've played and haven't even been challenged outside a little surge by wvu in the 3rd quarter. when you win every game in dominating fashion, people are going to talk about it. is this even a serious question?

Even one more point to add:

Alabama averages a 22 point margin of victory against the 3 ranked teams they have played.

LSU averages a 23.4 margin of victory against the 5 ranked teams they have played.

Counting only teams that are still CURRENTLY ranked in the top 25, Alabama averages a margin of victory of 20 points against the 2 teams they played who are STILL ranked. LSU averages a margin of victory of 24.7 against the 3 teams they played who are STILL ranked.

Any way you slice it and dice it, LSU has larger margins of victory against teams who are ranked.

Yes. Usually when something happens for the first time, a big deal is made out of it. Especially when it's something like beating the shite out of everyone you've played.

Last year we scored 386 points in 13 games... We're already at 314 through only 8 games. We should pass the within the next 2 games!

The commonly held opinion by the media is that, apart from the fun 'n gun spurrier days, the SEC in general is a smashmouth league and the top dogs seldom run up constant huge scores on a consistent basis.

LSU this year has been doing that against divisional/conference/OOC teams - home and away. It is therefore a surprise to them and they mention it time and again.

Maybe to answer the question a little tighter...yes, beating the 8 times by double digits is an LSU record. Although I haven't taken the time to personally do the research (and maybe I should before posting this), I'm hearing this is an LSU record.

From my limited point of view, I beleive it isn't about double digits alone. It's about double digits and quality opponents in each and every game. As I have said often, this team is like NONE I have seen in my 62 years. With Bama performing equally well, we should see a real battle unless one team has a terrible day and can't get untracked.

I really don't hate teams. Bama was one of my favorites when I was in high school. Big fan of Namath and Stabler, but the "swagger" gets a little old. We do it, too, but at last year's game in BR there were several women there who couldn't wait to tell all of us waiting in line for the portolet how SAban's saying was, "make their arse quit!" They were going to wipe the floor with us. They all were wearing a button with this on it when I asked them what is was for. Since then, they can kiss my arse.

You answered your own question.

And to add what others have posted, have you seen what Oregon has done to their opponents in every single game since LSU?

Good solid answers above, but one more thing I would like to add...

Think about many of LSU's wins during Miles' tenure: last second, trick plays, gambles, Mad Hatter stuff.

This year, it's been different. A lot different than say the last 6 or 7 years.

THAT's what stands out to college football fans. We are destroying quality teams with astounding regularity.

And yes, it does feel good to watch LSU games this year and not be yelling at the tv, seeing the short side option, and endless delay of game, illegal motions, illegal formations, and wasted timeouts; fun to watch an efficient offense and not having to win games in the final minutes. Fun to watch a defense that dominates week in and week out.

THAT's why they're making a big deal out of the margin of victory in LSU's games, and I am glad about it.

Hopefully the next game will be as lopsided in our favor as the previous 8. Now that would be something to remember.

this is your answer. Under Miles, LSU has traditionally won "unimpressively". This is the first year under Miles where LSU has consistently dominated teams on field and the score board.

Because the biggest question about this year's team was the offense. Beating teams by double digits means your offense is putting points on the board. That part of the equation has now been answered, again and again.
