They've played two ranked teams and we've played five (at the time). Are their passing rank (2nd nationally) and scoring rank (also 2nd) factors in the computer love fest?

It doesn't matter until December. Just don't get it.

Playing an FCS school really hurt our SOS

This is an exceedingly stupid qualification.

So if a top 5 team is supremely overrated in the preseason, just because you were the first to expose them means you still get the say at the end of the year that you leveled a top 5 team?

The computers adjust your SOS all year based on the results of the field, not by a static image of the team when you played them.

Its why the WVa loss to Syracuse was expected to trickle down and hurt LSU's computer ranking.

What the human polls rank them is IRRELEVANT. It is even more irrelevant what they were ranked at the time.

The computers think Mississippi State is garbage (they are), Florida and Auburn are average, and W Virginia is above average at best. So we have one really great win (Oregon). The Margin of Victory is also irrelevant. So re-make the argument with that information

No, not at all. The computer rankings are not based on stats or games scores, but on who beats who throughout college football.

Look at the link below from Colley Matrix website that compares the Top 5:

This week Top 5 comparison LINK

Okie St. is getting a big boost from Texas still being rank high (#20) and by U-La-La (#44) still being ranked in the top 50. This will change as these two teams lose future games. Last week U-La-La was at #27 helping to boost Okie St.

Comparatively, LSU on the other hand is being hurt in the ranking by Fla (#47), Tenn (#57), Miss St (#68) and Ky (#77) - which would all skullfrick U-La-La. NWU doesn't help us either in the grand scheme (see LSU Matt's post above).

Now the best thing about the Colley site is you can change the data to create hypotheticals.

Go to weekly rankings LINK under the weekly rankings banner click the link for Add/remove games, add West Virginia beating Syracuse and remove Syracuse beats West Virginia then click the submit form button at the bottom. Look at the how the numbers change for each of the 120 teams based on the outcome of a single game keeping all other variables constant.

Hope this gives you a better understanding of how the computers work.
