According to a couple of TCU sources, one of the conferences that actually called the good people over on University Drive was actually the Southeastern Conference. The SEC inquired about TCU. Seriously. Not kidding. This phone call took place before TCU gave the Big East the "We're No. 1" sign and left for the Big 12. There wasn't much of a discussion, because the purple powers that be quickly decided "No, thanks." As the Aggies will soon learn, the SEC is a "checkbook" league; large checks over the table, and big cash under it, too. TCU did not want to have to go to the necessary lengths just to be Vanderbilt. Can't they just be happy they're going to the BigXII where they belong?

e
no they must try and tear down the best conference in the nation
marketing 101- "big checks above the table and lots of cash under it"
yea cause no one in the Big9 ever cheated, must have forgotten where that conference developed from, the leaders of cheating themselves, the SWC
what garbage

TCU will always get curbed stomped by a 8-4 Texas team. For all the talent in that state, they suck more often than not...that goes for Texas too.

It's the Star-telegram, what did you expect? That paper blows and tries to start shite up since they are The DMN's bitch.

Inquire is not invite. You know that
Now he's saying the SEC only inquired but didn't invite TCU. I'm not sure how that stands with him saying TCU said "Thanks, but no thanks."
Either TCU rebuffed them, or they weren't invited.

SEC would never invite a small religious school to be a member
Having Vandy is weird enough

Is anyone here going to deny the big money under the table line? Many of your athletes get paid under the table.

What happens to athletes at OU, OSU, and UT?
Baylor basketball is one of the dirtiest programs in the NCAA.
And I'm not naive enough to believe that A&M is 100% clean...just cleaner than most....

This was written by the star telegram not by TCU stop assigning blame inappropriately.
TCU made a good move going to the Big12 instead of SEC. They will be competatitve in the Big 12 more often than they would have in the SEC. They have less travel in the B12 than in the SEC and they get to re-kindle long seated rivalries.

Theres no doubt that they will do better in the Big 12 than the SEC.....but do you honestly believe that if TCU would have gone balls to the wall to get into the SEC, they could have?
I'm not trying to take shots at TCU, I just think the column posted is quite a leap in assumptions.
It isn't so much that TCU isn't "good" enough....its more than the SEC adding 2 teams in the same state makes 0 sense.
If they aren't willing to take OSU to get OU, they aren't willing to take TCU to go along with A&M. Non starter for the SEC.

Do I think they could have got in? Maybe but it would have been a far reach.
Do I think it is possible the SEC inquired about TCU intrest considering the alterantives of MO, WVU, FSU, Miami? Sure.
two different states with vastly different populations and money.

I can buy that. But the article infers that TCU turned DOWN The SEC in favor of the Big 12. Thats a little misleading.
The overall point that TCU will fare better in the Big 12 is definitely on target. But the writer feeling the need to even mention the SEC and take shots at the SEC is a little petty.

Draw an imaginary line across Texas, with DFW being in the new state of "North Texas" and Houston being in the state of "Southeast Texas", and we wouldn't be having this conversation that assumes A&M delivers DFW. I'm not saying that TCU does any better, because they don't, but the SEC will be sorely disappointed in the viewership that A&M will bring in DFW. TCU would've increased the penetrance in the market, especially with the SEC brand and money behind them--this is why the SEC began vetting TCU. I think ultimately the Big 12 will be better for TCU and the SEC would've passed on TCU because we wouldn't have brought more than Mizzou therefore justifying the selection and further revenue split, so it works out for all involved. We'll just never know what the end result of a full look at TCU by the SEC would've been because the Big 12 made their offer early in the process.
This also works out for me because the likelihood of me having to choose between TCU and LSU in a game is much less (except for OOC in a few years).
