A local jewelry has offered me $178 cash or $360 trade for my 10k generic high school ring..

If I do it I'm taking trade...

Don't need the money..just figured if it was going to sit in a desk drawer may as well trade out for something that would be worn by the Missus....

all they are going to do is melt it down anyway

Gold sells for about $1600 per troy ounce.
There are 31.1034768 grams in a troy ounce
10K gold is 5/12 (41%) pure

.5484*.41*1600= 360.74

So he's giving you about half of the value, assuming his scale is legit. Check for a state certification sticker on the scales.
