LINK to College Football News "Midseason Thoughts"

Also lists HB as best player.
"TOP PLAYER: Tyrann Mathieu, LSU. The best and most impactful player on one of the two best teams in the United States should be recognized as the most outstanding player in college football. LSU has tested itself through the first half of the season, whereas the likes of Russell Wilson, Kellen Moore, and Andrew Luck haven't faced elite opponents. This shouldn't be thought of as a particularly hard call to make."

All Lee ever needed was a QB coach and a competent OC. It shouldn't suprise anyone the way he's playing. I think he has the ability to put up even better #s, but he's not gonna get the chance in our offense.

All Lee ever needed was reps and a chance...and that's something he would have never gotten had the Shady's incident not happened...and now slowly but surely that opportunity is being taken away...

No one should hold his freshman year against him. He wasn't ready but had no choice. He hasn't gotten a real chance since, despite playing well and bailing lsu out a few times last year. Finally he has a chance now, and I hope it isn't gradually slipping away from him.

All of the above, plus a better O-line.

i personally think one of the biggest contributors to his success has been an awesome defense...they have given him half the field to go all year

I like this comment. Pure commonsense

If they played this afternoon, LSU beats Alabama. It’ll be a nail-biter, and both teams will look different the following week; as in multiple players will go down for the season as a result of this game (either literally or in terms of future production), just like last year. Something to pause and reflect on. But right now LSU is the more complete team.

- Not saying Alabama’s an incomplete team – it’s the second best in America. And you can only play the teams on the schedule. But we like LSU’s dominant road wins vs. Oregon and WVU…two squads that have a good chance to win their conferences. We think toughness and speed kills…the Tigers are just as tough and ferocious as Bama, and a fraction faster. Bama, as Bama does, will come after LSU’s QB…but this year the Tigers have a spare. Special teams in general is a wash (although we like LSU’s punt coverage). The three keys in this game: (i) LSU punt coverage – in a game that’s going to come down to field position, LSU has only allowed five punt return yards through seven games. Not five yards per game…five yards TOTAL… (ii) LSU’s offensive line – it’s deeper and more experienced than any unit Alabama has faced this season. That wisdom and rotation will be necessary against Bama’s dominating front seven, (iii) Experienced QB play; it’s ironic that something which has been LSU’s albatross for the past three seasons will finally be a plus. In a game this tight, small and big mistakes will be the difference. No one on the field touches the ball more than the quarterback. LSU’s two senior quarterbacks Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson – with two different styles – have both played against a number of dominating defenses…including in Tuscaloosa. On the other hand, A.J. McCarron has never started against a defense like LSU’s. Ever. He will make mistakes, and LSU’s opportunistic defense will capitalize on them.
