Must be before your time... but Mack Brown seems to have "made it out of there alive", I'd say, huh?

Did well enough at TU to get hired by UNC, did well enough at UNC to get hired at UT... has done well enough at UT to win the National Championship.... seems fairly decent to me.

Brown and Bowden were very lucky and had dual- threat QBs who turned out to be very effective (Terrance Jones and Sean King). Given Frank Wilsons recruiting ability -Id bet he could dip into the vast talent pool in La. and get a playmaker the big schools would not want as a QB and make a descent run. In addition Toledo is running a version of the West Coast offense which will never work at a place like Tulane.

Tulane won't be any good until the get an administration that backs the athletic program.

Memphis is basically the same way, with an administration that doesn't back the athletic program. Porter is finding out how hard it is to recruit at a school like that. I think Wilson would have it better since he could get the NOLA kids LSU and other big schools didn't want, but I don't think it would be enough to make them a "good" program.

Duh, it was asinine to run a pro-style offense there.

They have to go some variant of Air Raid/Spread Option to have any success there.

then, per NCAA rules, New Orleans could not host the Sugar Bowl or March Madness, but i'm sure you already knew that

ughh, no. Just no. That's the Super Bowl.

ETA: I'm pretty sure there aren't D-1 teams in Tampa, Charlotte, or Seattle

The Sugar Bowl is NOT in anyway associated with Tulane or the presence of Tulane in NOLA. But I guess you didn't know that.

Do any of you think Frank Wilson would be a good head coach? Word is that we are in the 1 mil - 1.5 range. That is enough money to get a good coach. They need to also pay assistants.

I dunno if Frank is ready to be a HC and a guy with as much promise as him I don't see champing at the bit to go to the graveyard of coaching careers.

He wouldn't be an idiot to use this opportunity to get a bump in pay from LSU though.

Tulane is staying div 1. It is hard to win because of the ridiculous limitations, but good coaches succeed and go on, some to win national championships, Mack Brown, Larry Smith, Tommy Bowden, Rich Rod.
