We blew his redshirt. We've been a MASH unit at Center so we've had interior lineman switching all over. Yet he's had 3 or 4 snaps in the last 5 games, I want to say.

This is really puzzling to me, especially with respect to the health issue on the interior pulling T-Bob away from the Guard position.

Why did we play this cat this year? I don't understand it at all. Just don't get it.

You guys need to chill with the whole 'burning of reshirt' crap. If he's good enough and competes well, he will get PT. If not, we have others who will.

If he lives up to hype and gives us 3 quality years as a starter, well that's all you can ask.

The coaches know full well how red-shirting works. Just chill and enjoy the ride.

Coaches are honey badgers themselves. Till their fired, I guess. But you can't complain-really-about anything this staff has done thusfar.

But, that doesn't mean I'm not really confused about what our plan for Collins' development was and is.

With the 25 schollys per year and 100 total its not healthy to red shirt many players. He was not good enough to come in and start day one so he would never be a 4 year player anyways. Let him get some experience and get his feet wet he should come in next year ready to go. If he was significantly better than what we have out there he would be playing.

You play to win the game. You put the best available 5 OLinemen on the field. Some days that includes Collins. His redshirt isn't "burned" - he's playing and gaining experience (we still have 5 to 7 games left to play). Should he have a bad injury in Spring ball or immediately before a season starts, he will still have an opportunity to redshirt in the future.

(A redshirt is "burned" only a year a player DOESN'T play.)

Collins should be playing more at G because with game experience he could be better than Williford

Collins will likely go pro in 3 years anyway, pointless in redshirting him, same goes for Montgomery and Brockers who could both leave as RS So

It looks like neither Collins nor Freak were ready to come in as true freshman and dominate like a lot of the tards on here thought they would. I'm not big on redshirting guys if they can help you win this year, but I am curious about pulling the shirts off Collins and Rasco for such little PT so far.

I've come to the conclusion that we have so much amazing talent coming in that we simply don't have the scholarships to support redshirts.

Agree on Collins, but I'd say Freak has done pretty damn good when he's in the game.

Freak has looked beastly in the playing time he has gotten. The starters on the Dline aren't nearly as important as the starter at QB. We will rotate around 8 guys on the line and Freak is in that rotation quite frequently.

Which is pretty amazing for a true freshman DL in the SEC.......(actually on one of the two elite SEC defenses).

Playing actual downs will be more beneficial than practice. Like previous posts have said, we may not have these guys 4 years anyways. At LSU, you better get on the field quickly because there is talent coming right behind you.

He has. My commentary was not on him, but the absurd expectations placed on him before the season. Some had convinced themselves he was ready to be an All-SEC DT this year.

Collins IMO is too good to stay on the bench.

people need to quit with this burning redshirt stuff. if they're good enough, they should play. he could leave after 3 years as a sophomore or after his junior year, and then we lose a year of playing time. it's very common for elite players to leave early, so if you need guys to play, play them.
