I'm guessing nothing new on the conference expansion talk mill because Mizzou is being Mizzou and not deciding on anything. Why any conference would wait on them/want them is a mystery to me. Their potential TV units aren't worth all this drama. Slive, it's time to move on.

Report: Missouri Taking Steps Toward The SEC

The folks at PowerMizzou.com — the Rivals site covering Missouri — have reported this morning that “the ball will be rolling” regarding a Mizzou move to the SEC by the end of the week and that the move should be completed by the end of the month.

According to the site: “The basic thought is that the only way Missouri does NOT move to the SEC at this point is if the SEC pulls the rug out at the last minute.” Mike Slive isn’t the type of commissioner to do that. And he wouldn’t have allowed things to progress this far with Mizzou if he didn’t already know he had the votes to get them into the league.

Missouri’s board of curators will meet later this week.

I feel like I've heard this before, but ok. Thanks. Resolution would be nice - 14 teams better than 13. Mizzou not my first choice, but maybe not the worst possible choice for SEC expansion. Just please, put them in the East.

I think as much as possible, Mizzou and Slive will keep moves completely under the radar. If they are successful at this then news on the decisions won't make news until they are done.

The SEC began with three Tiger teams. Everything will be OK.

agree with them in the east. i think when it's all said and done, mizzou will be a very good sec member on an overall basis. not every member can be a perienniel challenger for the conference title or NC title. they have had some very good teams in the past and if the sec move helps their recruiting some they may surprise you. to me, there are some problems associated with having a "superstar" join our league; we have plenty of them already. if these superstars are content with being the big fish in their pond so be it.

I agree 100% on that one - which is why I have been on the WVU bandwagon - a decent team, a strong football tradition and fanbase, but not enough tv units in WV to satisfy the bean-counters along these threads. So let the lemmings stampede to Mizzou. But who knows? You might be right, in time they could work in well.

Mizzou is not freezing the process. Alabama and Tennessee (among others) are freezing the process. Slive does not have the votes and is lobbying to get them. You have two schools vehemently opposed to Mizzou in the West (Bama and UT) and several unnamed schools who are very borderline on the idea. Slive needs 9 votes and is very unlikely to go forward with a plan that 2 premier members are adamantly opposed to even if he gets 9. Mizzou may never happen and if it does I can guarantee you they will be in the East.

I was thinking this may be the case.

Above all else, Slive values cohesion. When all 12 SEC presidents trust him and are working together, his job becomes much much easier. End a historic rivalry that two premier schools are not ready to give up and that trust is gone, never to return. (See Dan Beebe for what happens to conference commissioners who lose the trust of even a few conference presidents).

Hopefully neither school is ever ready to give it up.

Right, because there are so many better options on the table that we need to move quickly on.

They're worth the wait.

Say what you want, but you can be sure that Slive will want to avoid pissing Tennessee off. It's not just about Bama.

Just kidding. We know you've fallen on rough times lately, but you're still one of the old guard.

This is all just payback for hiring that piece of trash Kiffen.

I'll be damned.

You are correct.

Sewanee's mascot is the Tigers.
