In the Meantime, Tulane is on a "Big 12 Watch"

Tulane and their 200 fans in the MB Superdome are aiming high:

In fact, one Greenie is a bit more optimistic than that. He thinks Tulane has a shot at an even better conference:
With guys like this as Tulane alums, I am sincerely worried about the value of my child's degree from there.

I know this is a monster stretch, but any chance the SEC would add Tulane as a 14th school? If SEC goes to 16, would we have a shot? We are an original founding SEC member which must count for something, we are an AAU member and we would give teams road trips to the Big Easy.

If tulane moved to North Carolina, they may have a shot.

challenges texags imo:

Strictly speaking from a football viewpoint anyone who thinks a football investment in Boise, Idaho is a better investment than New Orleans, Louisiana is insane. Looking at it from a long term viewpoint our ceiling is far higher than Boise St. I have no inside knowledge of any kind, but a major presence in New Orleans and Louisiana seems like a great move for the Big 12. Just recruiting wise for Texas and Oklahoma to have an oppurtunity to play in New Orleans every other year would be huge to them and hurt LSU alot more than LSU is willing to admit. If this actually does happen I think the SEC is going to regret opening up this can of worms. Believe me, LSU does not want Texas and OK playing in the Superdome more than they do. They might be laughing it off, but I've been saying for years that LSU takes New Orleans for granted, they play in Dallas and Atlanta but don't schedule games down here. New Orleans is more in play than they realize. They would not want a Texas-Oklahoma Big 12 Championship in New Orleans in December. Quite frankly with the amount of New Orleans and South Louisiana ex-pats living in Dallas and Houston, New Orleans has alot more in common with Texas these days than it does with Atlanta, Birmingham, even Baton Rouge. If our Athletic Dept. was even mediocre it would seem like a no brainer.

At least he knows it is a stretch and offers some good points. But, yeah, the likelihood of Tulane coming to the SEC is the same as the Saints winning the Superbowl pre-Katrina.

The SEC would really love to bring in the New Orleans market. It could benefit them big time.

While the guy over-values Tulane and the "New Orleans Market," I admit he does express my sentiments.
I don't want ANY chance--no matter how remote--of Texas and Oklahoma playing in NOLA every other year.
Now of course these delusional Weenies are willing to be the Shorthorns' little whore for a crumb off the table.
It would not,as some of them said, bring LSU recruiting back to the days of Hallman when every Louisiana bluechip went out of state.
However, Oklahoma and Texas playing in NOLA would be an aggravation that LSU does not need.
That is why I think LSU and LSU fans should be against Mizzou coming to the SEC.
Bottom line: Toolame had 50 years to get it right and blew it.
There is room for ONE major BCS football program in Louisiana and that program is LSU.
Most McNeese fans, many LaTech and ULL fans get it and root for LSU on the BCS level and root for their schools, who are obviously on a much lower plane of football.
Heck, many Tulane students are LSU fans because they have the common sense to know there is no "rivalry" with Tulane. This makes the few mossback alumni at Tulane who still care scream, but it's the truth.
IMO, the few that post on Tulane message boards should start a thread entitled: "Sun Belt Conference Watch" ... or even "Southland Conference Watch."
Because IMO, that is where they will--and should--end up.

Forgive me if my sarcasm meter is broken--I'm not sure if you're serious.
The SEC already has the New Orleans market ... some school named LSU delivers it for them.

1) It's a pipe dream because even Texas could not sell Tulane to the Big 12. The uproar would be deafening.
2) It WOULD affect LSU, however slightly. Again, I want no chance at all of OU and Texas playing in the Superdome every other year.

you're too paranoid... LSU is #1 and will rarely be out of the top 25 for the next 50 years. why should it really matter if tulane wants to go from #110 to #60? if ULL wants to go from #100 to #55? if Tech wants to go from #90 to #50?

I don't think we necessarily take New Orleans for granted, but we should play more games there other than NC games. lol

Tulame has no shot at either conference.

Tulane has two message boards?

There is a reason Tulane left the SEC. It would only be worse now.

If Tulane started paying players for pay like SMU in the 80s then they would have a shot.
P.S. People who don't live in the South probably don't even know where Tulane is.

They wouldn't have to go that far.
If they simply had athletic-friendly majors for the last 20 years, they would "have a shot."
Their President crows about the "Tulane Model" but nobody cares, nobody is listening, and conference expansion is leaving Tulane back at the starting line.
