I kige this. Tulane could dominate CUSA just by picking up LSU's in-state leftovers each recruiting season.

The lack of an OCS and the small size of Fogelman don't really matter. The Superdome and New Orleans Arena are much better selling points for the Big XII or whoever, and a new Tulane Stadium wouldn't be anywhere near as much of an asset.

Those facilities and the recruiting pipeline to south Louisiana are the two things that would make Tulane valuable if the Bevo Conference looks to expand. In that case, the question becomes not whether Tulane is good but whether Tulane is better than the alternatives.

BYU opted out. They don't want Boise. New Mexico and New Mexico State offer less than Tulane, across the board. They don't want any more Texas schools. So it comes down to Tulane vs. Memphis, UL, Cincy, San Diego State, and West Virginia. None of which are must haves or they would already have gotten an invite.

I realize they are probably not too high up on the list, but how big of a Rival is Tulane? I was surprised when it was listed as a rivalry in NCAA Football and thought it was a stretch.

If Tulane gets added...they'll go from 3 win seasons to possible 1 win. Good improvement.

To be quite honest. In alot of respects Tulane does make sense to the Big 12- AAU school, Good TV market, fertile recruiting area, facilities(Mercedes-Benz superdome and New Orleans Arena,If necessary.)
and hell who wouldn't want a road trip to New Orleans(voted #1 destination by Trip advisor.)
The things that are lacking can be fixed with a few good recruiting classes. They've already been undefeated and ranked #7 in '98. So its not like they haven't done it before. BCS status would give recruiting instant boost. Interesting...

That's true. Tulane's biggest shortcomings are fan support and a terrible football team. While it's speculative, there's the possibility that BCS money and BCS prestige will improve those areas.

The other potential teams don't have that room for growth. New Mexico won't become a prime recruiting ground. Boise State isn't going to grow a Superdome. West Virginia isn't going to move closer to the rest of the conference.

Good TV market
A TV market is good only if the people in it actually care about the team. TV people aren't stupid. They will look at the ratings that Tulane TV and radio broadcasts get, the amount of advertising sold and the rates for those advertisements and determine that Tulane comes nowhere close to "delivering" the New Orleans market.

good call Bestbank. I also think it would be an economic windfall for the city with some B12 schools bringing 20-30K fans to the dome. I might be one of the few on here that would rather a competitive Tulane as opposed to an apathetic one.

Understand Johnny. But people in New Orleans will come out and watch a good product. I know many Saints fans who are LSU fans but won't drive to Baton Rouge. It might as well be in another state(as crazy as that may seem). But if there was a product worth watching right down the street, they would come.

The other angle could be Texas wanting to expand the Longhorn network into Louisiana. Showing LA highschool games, etc... honestly don't think it will happen but I think Tulane has alot to offer if their administration showed some commitment.

longhorn network will not be showing high school games i believe. that was decided about a week or two ago maybe. basically the rest of the conference said hell no and OU/OUst said they would leave.

Tulane is like Temple or Villanova...located in a city with a huge tv market that they will never deliver no matter how you spin it.

Good point.

For a concrete illustration, look at the roster of Tulsa, a team that DOES, along with Houston, dominate CUSA.

These are obviously guys LSU did not offer, but could be playing for Tulane if they did not have that ridiculous "Tulane Model."

Meanwhile, on the mid-major level, Tulsa has a major pipeline into the NOLA/south Louisiana recruiting area:

15 henderson kalen
Kalen Henderson 72
6-0 202 Quarterback 1
FR-RS Mount Airy, La. (East St. John)

12 james jordan
Jordan James 74
6-2 205 Wide Receiver 3
SO-1L Norco, La. (St. Thomas More)

5 johnson ricky
Ricky Johnson 74
6-2 217 Wide Receiver 5
JR-2L Lafayette, La. (Carencro)

26 mccoil dexter
Dexter McCoil 76
6-4 222 Defensive Back 5
JR-2L Lutcher, La. (Lutcher)

8 singleton alex
Alex Singleton 73
6-1 250 Running Back 5
JR-1L LaPlace, La. (East St. John)

94 walker tyrunn
Tyrunn Walker 75
6-3 273 Defensive End 7
SR-1L New Iberia, La. (Jones CC)

not to mention Tulsa's best player (and one of the best return athletes in the country)that is going to jail from Destrahan, Demaris Johnson

very true that tulane could or should be in the top and not the bottom of cusa
