There were multiple reports after TCU got it's invite that negotiations with BYU fell apart. I'm pretty sure BYU would have been first on the invite list, not second.

Then you'd be wrong. Neinas stated that the TV partners would only allow the contract to stay at it's current value for 10 teams if TCU was #10, as they consider TCU an ample replacement for Texas A&M... i.e. the draw for ad revenue is approximately the same, as calculated by viewership that TCU games have garnered in the past several years. That being the case, one must question not only what TCU is doing right, but also what A&M has been doing that is so wrong. There's no way a non-BCS team from a private school of 7K students should match a 50K enrollment BCS school that is a flagship of the second most populous state in the country, and that being a state that is bonkers for football. And with all of that plus no bowl wins in a decade, the SEC was tripping all over itself to get them. Im glad they were because it opened up a seat at the table for TCU, but A&M is not set up for success in the SEC.

San Diego State is actually closer to Austin than BYU

The AD from SDSU tweeted that fact earlier. Austin is also the furtherest south of any state capitol in the lower 48.
