They'll be left with 8 teams centered geographically in the Texas/Oklahoma/Kansas corridor (exception being Iowa St.).

Assuming they should want to add 4 teams, who do you think they would/should be?

Imo....

BYU
TCU
Houston
Tulsa

BYU
TCU
New Mexico
Colorado State (the last two for entry into new states primarily not the programs)

If there is anything we have learned it is that geographical location really doesn't matter

BYU would be a must
I don't think they really need another Texas school but if it comes down to that they'll probably jump on it with TCU or Houston
If I was the Big 12 I'd get BYU and Louisville. Maybe even try to grab West Virginia and TCU to get it up to 12

I think the best plan for the Big 12 would be to try to poach as many Big East teams, plus a New Mexico and/or Colorado St. and/or BYU. I mean, if it's not geography and it's markets, it's their best bet to make this a venture that can last. At this point, however, all it seems like is Texas is going to do absolutely everything in their power to keep their network, no matter how terrible that conference becomes, and OU is going to follow them and do whatever they want.

Well, it is their network, so why would/should they share any profits from it. OU has every right to start their own network as it's a free country. Saying Tx should share these proceeds to the less attractive members is like saying the SEC should share their profits with Conf USA. I heard today, however, that Tx has agreed that the LHN will not show any HS games or HS highlights.

At no point in my post did I say Texas should share their profits from their network. Where the hell did you get that from?

My mistake - late and groggy - but not really knowing the situation being away from all that, other than using their network for recruiting advantages, why is there so much hate over the LHN, or is it really just hate of UTx in general?

I don't hate it either. If they can rake in tens of millions of dollars with it, no wonder they don't want to part with it. It's a good financial move. However, the question remains how long they'll be able to keep the conference intact. At this point, watering down the conference with some of the schools being listed will not result in additional revenue in the future, far from it. They've lost some of their most recognizable and biggest market schools, and they're talking about replacing them with directional garbage that may fill the market void they currently have.

I just don't see this as anything but patchwork and I see no reason why OU and OSU wouldn't leave their arse, head to the Pac, and then let Texas try to figure out how to operate as an independent when there are four 16 team conferences and they can't schedule anyone worth a shite, just so they can keep their stronghold on their network.

If Texas and OU sign off on the 6 year commitment of TV revenue - they aren't going anywhere. I don't know why OU and OSU aren't interested in the SEC and why they did not explore that option - makes no sense to me.

I will say, regardless of what schools they choose to add, B12 will retain their BCS bid for 6 years, and in my opinion, they also put a screeching 6 year halt to country-wide 16 team super conferences. One of either the ACC or SEC could go to 16, but as long as the B12 exists, the Pac12 and B1G are boxed in - no quality programs to choose from to go to 16.

I think OU and OSU going to the pac 12 would be a huge mistake. That opens the door for A&M to grab a lot of north Texas talent who would rather play closer to home.

PAC 12 does not want low-academic schools. no way Ok State gets into the Pac 12.

If I'm Texas (and their little sister), I'm looking to poach a bunch of teams that will be so happy to be in a conference with a BCS autobid that they will keep their mouths shut about the LHN and let us run roughshod over them for the next 20 years, while still letting my fans make the trip to see us stomp their guts into the mud.
To me, those candidates are (in random order):
The old SWC (TCU, SMU, Houston, Rice)
Other C-USA lightweights (Tulsa, Tulane, Memphis, USM, UTEP)
Any MWC schools I can get (UNM, CSU, Wyoming, but not Boise--too embarassing to lose)
BYU--don't have to poach and lots of eyeballs for my network.

The Big-12-2-1-1+x should be able to grab four or eight of those no problem.

if the Big 12 (-4) added TCU, Louisville, SMU, and BYU they could call it a day. It wouldn't be a powerhouse conference but it would be at least temporarily stabilized

My 4 recommendations:

BYU
TCU
And any 2 of these 3: Colorado St/Air Force/New Mexico
