Having a mascot named after Confederate soldiers is very insensitive and will certainly bring shame to us soon. It will definitely cause problem with recruting. I can see us in the near future due to public outcry being forced to change our mascot to somethng more politically correct...something along the lines of some sort of bear maybe.

the lack of knowledge of military history among the unwashed masses here continues to simply astound me!!!!!

the bengal tiger incorporated in insignia of louisiana military units goes back to 1838 with the Washington Artillery of New Orleans (several posters use the regimental crest as their avatar)...which is still in the Order of Battle of the United States Army (141st and 935th Field Artillery)...

the 256th Infantry Brigade is also known as the Tiger Brigade...

these units have battle honors that go beyond the Civil War...ever hear of Anzio? and the 256 has gone to both Afghanistan and Iraq...
